Street Fighter: Chun Li Won't Be Screened For Critics, What?

What could they be trying to hide?

What?!?  No screening for critics?  Why not?  I'm sure there are those who are on the edge of their seats waiting for the release of this.  I can't believe they're not going to let anyone get an early peak and give an early review.  What could possibly be the reason for this?

Variety reports:
Which means those who want to see it opening night will have to brave those treacherous waters review-free. Of course, in 95% of cases, not screening a movie is the studio's way of admitting critics are sure to hate it -- usually because it's bad, occassionally because it's a genre, like horror, that critics rarely appreciate.

All kidding aside, I'm sure this isn't much of a surprise.  I actually feel a little bad for Kristen Kreuk.  But not too much.  She really started annoying me on "Smallville."  Not sure if that was entirely her fault or the writers but whatever.  She made her choice to leave the show (thankfully) and pursue a "movie" career.  Good luck, babe.

When they do this, the movie usually sucks. But we already know that.

The movie will not be screened by critics because the producers of this film already know that the critics are going to trash the film to bits!

The funny thing about that article is it was written by a friend of the writer.

Full disclosure: I have seen "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li," at a private screening. But because the writer is a good friend, I can't objectively write about the actual content. I will write about the box office performance and reviews as soon as the film is released, though.

It's as good a sign as any that this a stinker. But then the press photos and clips we've seen shared on this site already confirmed that.

And I grew tired of Lana Lang/Kristen Kreuk within the first handful of episodes of "Smallville". She knew full well what kind of movie she signed up for. So did Moon Bloodgood and others. Maybe they saw something I *still* haven't seen. Then again, with the industry being what it is, B/C-grade actors and actresses probably aren't being real choosey about what they work on.

I wonder if she saw the script and thought "This is going to be awesome."  Was it the only decent one she could get?  Did they throw a bunch of money at her so she didn't really care?  It just looks like they're not really trying hard.  It has "farce" written all over it.
