Stop-Motion Anime is the Coolest Thing Ever

Seriously, just shut up and watch this for a sec.

Spotted this via 2ch-- it's an anime, but it was created via stop-motion. And it's freakin' amazing. Watch this-- it's less than four minutes long, and if you don't I'm serious that you're missing out. Touhou fans in particular should enjoy it, but don't let that stop you non-Touhou-fanatics.

My mind is totally blown. I have to go do something else now.   *wobbles off*

(UPDATE: Reader Kiriska helpfully notes that the video part actually already existed, so the 'animation' is actually just printed stills from it-- but I still think it looks cool, so I'll just leave this here.)

It's that Touhou transformation video, just someone printed all the frames out and went nuts with stop motion. :> I'd be more impressed if I hadn't seen the normal version already.

@Kiriska: Hmm, I haven't seen it-- but I still think this is really neat.

That is incredibly cool. Ray Harryhausen would be proud.

@gia: Here's the original video, Bad Apple

It's seriously cool, but the way they printed out all those frames and did all that extra work for the other video was pretty impressive too.

Yeah, I'm with some of the other users, I'd already seen the animation itself, which is already pretty cool. Still very impressive stuff though, see the framecount at the end? That would have taken forever to set up.

CNN picked it up as well.

One word: Amazing!

I love Alstroemeria Records. Masayoshi Minoshima is a Touhou-trance god or something.

@HSaabedra: Wow... Even CNN???...

Dear Japan, and especially Niconico and Japanese Internet residents,

On behalf of the rest of the world, thank you for being so awesome.

Sincerely,

I feel copied ;P.  Just kidding, I don't care, glad to see it make the front page so more people can see it :D.

It really is cool, I think the way they incorporate the surrounding apartment is petty awesome, while not as cool as the Pig/Wolf stop motion.  It adds some to the original animation, but sometimes I like watching the original as the constant motion of the frames can get a bit nauseating on the stopmotion.

Both are really cool, and Bad Apple is just a catchy song.

Holy Crap, that was RAD rad!!! Around thirty frames per second! GOT to love high frame-rate animation.... Whew, I'm winded just watching it!
okandon Jan. 31, 2010 at 3:41 a.m.
I don't get what's so interesting about Touhou and all that but that's some nice animation work there.

Must have taken forever to set up...
AleMon Jan. 31, 2010 at 6:01 a.m.
I don't know anything about Touhou, but this video sure looks amazing. Another awesome piece of work that shows the incredible power of the fans. =D
giaon Jan. 31, 2010 at 9:35 a.m.
@HSaabedra: Yeah, I just saw that!

Agreed (on the catchy song thing.) Besides, you were just in on it before it was "cool" ^_^
