State Rep: Anime an Example of Why Two Nukes Wasn't Enough?

...Wow. Just wow.

Why would you want to bomb this?!
Why would you want to bomb this?!
Wow.

Just...wow.

And I'm not even wowing about how rare it is that I get to talk about politicians on this site.

Democratic New Hampshire state representative Nick Levasseur reportedly updated his Facebook status to say this yesterday:

"anime is a prime example of why two nukes just wasn't enough....."

 *snf* Please don't nuke me!
 *snf* Please don't nuke me!
Words...they just fail me. I mean, I don't know anything about New Hampshire politics, but I'm pretty sure not many people get elected on the "Japan deserved to have the snot bombed out of them even more than it was!" platform.

Note: I have not been able to formally confirm the content of this Facebook update; the primary source is the Republican site RedHampshire.com, which clearly has some potential bias. All the other sites I found reporting on it cited the same source (except my original source, TheGinachu on Twitter (via AICN Anime), who doesn't cite where she first heard it).

But if this is legit? Dude, what a tool. Even Strike Witches can't be THAT bad.

I have a hard time believing this one. I mean, sound like political suicide to me. He can't be that dumb. Can he?
KiraIsLon March 26, 2010 at 5:35 a.m.
umm I am pretty sure America gave animation to japan as help for them to get back on their feet. They sent help, animators over there to give them industry. The same as technology. >_< damn it sorry, Americans but this doesn't help your image.
crusader8463on March 26, 2010 at 5:50 a.m.
Stuff like this is the reason most of the world views America as nothing but a bunch of racist, violent, redneck, ignorant assholes that don't deserve to share the same planet as the rest of us. Which is unfortunate because i have meet a couple nice Yankees, but god dam if they don't have one hell of an image to fight against when they say where they are from.

You think a guy would be smart enough not to use his own name when printing a joke like that, especially if he happens to be a politician.
Fabeon March 26, 2010 at 6:31 a.m.

Well since has was talking about anime I don't think any one one out side of anime fandom is going to care really.
FoxxFireArt moderator on March 26, 2010 at 7:23 a.m.
A Democrat said that?? Damn, that sort of vitriolic, insensitive statement normally comes out of Republicans. I'm just taking it that New Hampshire must not have a really big Japanese population in his district.

They are still pretty sensitive about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I seem to remember some reporting about some worries about that scene in Code Geass about that bomb going off in that series Tokyo.
Some people just have no idea what a horrible weapon a nuclear bomb is. Everyone only thinks of them as in movies. It's not just the blast. It's the outskirts where there is severe radiation sickness. Not to mention the damage the radiation does to the land.

I hope this news gets to Japan and he feels some heat from their media. Not to mention the Japanese consulate in the US.

It's good to be cautious about such sourcing, but what would be the point in lying about what was posted on a Facebook page that could easily be proven false. Though, you also have to wonder if this was his posting or someone's commenting on his wall.

@kwyrt:
Never underestimate how stupid a politician of any party can be.

Only in...

If you're doubting the authenticity then try adding the guy as a friend, especially since only yesterday he changed his profile so only his friends could read it.

It probably went like this:

Public adviser: Well gee sir ever since we had a N***** as president it be very hard to be in politics for people like us.
Nick: I know stupid but if i don`t go rasist on somebody i`m gonna go crazy
PA: Well we can`t focus on the emigrants any more and everybody`s a little touchy about people in the middle-east ever since the wars.
Nick: I got! i dunno bout you but i think nobody cares about it if i go red on them Japs.
PA: excellent sir i`ll see you at the lighting of the cross.
Nick: Fine!, *log on to facebook*.

stone that guy
Krison March 26, 2010 at 10:06 a.m.
He seems to be focusing, as per the usual, on a selective view of the content.  It's likely a response to the high profile loli rape stuff or whatever.  He's likely referring to that, which is probably all he's even aware of.  So yeah, that is an absolutely awful thing to say, but like most politicians, he's only seen the 1% and knows nothing about the other 99%.
YotaruVegetaon March 26, 2010 at 10:17 a.m.
I'd love to know if this is true. Why a politician would be talking anime, I don't know.
Boddingtonon March 26, 2010 at 10:21 a.m.
@kwyrt: It would be if his constituency has many Japanese in it, which I doubt it does. However, if the hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) ever got word of this they'd probably kick up a shitstorm and maybe even lobby for a censure against that douchebag.

The man is obviously nuts. Googling him turns up results that say he also proposed hunting Neo-cons a la "The Most Dangerous Game"  This was about a month ago, so maybe he just needs to make a monthly statement that is just batshit insane? He's worse than Michelle Bachman.

Theirs biases on the site  http://www.bluehampshire.com/  has well.  I'm not trying to started a fight on anything but the media in general would ran with this story if a Republican would have said this and not democratic.

I hope Gia would have said same thing if sorce came from bluehampshire.com if it were a Republican that said it and giving him the benefit of the doubt.  I'm sure she would have.

Anyways, we would keep nuke them unto the ground if they haven't surrender.  Which I'm glad they did.  I love anime.

Well since all the good stuff has already been said, I'll crack a joke instead.
*clears throat*

If ever there was another nuke detonated in Japan...

...this guy would be there to survive it.
