The most common reason manga fans turn to scanlations is because of lag time. The English version of popular manga are various volumes behind their original Japanese print. This is an issue that is trying to be addressed.
VIZ Media came up with Shonen Jump Alpha, a digital magazine that closes the delay between the Japan and American edition of it's titles. In the same manner,Yen Press will be doing providing a same-day serialization service of Soul Eater'sspin-off series. Does this piece of news make fans of the Soul Eater franchise happy?

The publisher of SQUARE ENIX ® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, today announced that the same-day serialization service of the popular comic SOUL EATER NOT! in Japan and North America has been launched.
The comic SOUL EATER NOT! is currently published in Japan in the comic magazine, Monthly Shonen GANGAN (released on the 12th of each month), and will be published in the online comic via YEN PLUS (operated by the Hachette Book Group in North America) on the same day as Japan. Generally, translated releases in other countries are released long after the original is published in Japan. However, due to popular demand, SOUL EATER NOT! will be the only monthly serialized comic in Japan to offer this service in North America.
This marks a huge stepping stone for Square Enix, and the company is putting its efforts into further global expansion of manga. Square Enix will continue to deliver a variety of content to customers worldwide through various forms of media.
