SPACE BROTHERS #6 -- Watch & Learn

Feel so Moooooon... oh wait.

Looks like I was right on the money with my predication about how the formula of this show would spill out. I mean, let’s be real, Mutta quitting his job by head-butting his boss on the way out would seriously hurt his future job prospects. Still, the point of this episode is to acknowledge that reality while simultaneously spinning the faux pas into a character trilogy that actually impresses the JAXA dudes doing a background check on our quirky lead. I get the feeling that we’re going to see many more repetitions of this theme as the story’s stretched out over the 40+ remaining episodes in the series. (Hell, this episode even sort-of has two quirks that get rehabilitated with Mutta proving himself to be a human stop watch.)

It’s been a while since I’ve watched an anime that’s recreated some place that I’ve actually been to. The last time it happened was when DEATH NOTE did an arc in LA - - and it’s still incredibly weird to see it happen on screen. In this instance, it’s the Johnson Space Center, which I went to while visiting my sister in Texas a couple years back.

I can say that the crew recreates the place with impressive detail, which makes their wildly off-the-mark recreation of the TONIGHT SHOW that much more (unintentionally) amusing. You’d figure that a crew that went through all that trouble to research a visitor’s facility on the other side of the world would take an hour out to watch some clips of Leno or Letterman.

Watch this episode, "Et Cetera In My Heads” here and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode here.

That's pretty weird they didn't take that much time to properly recreate the talk show, but I'm glad they (seemingly) recreated the Johnson Space Center with that much accuracy.  Then again, I've never been to the space center, nor have I seen a full episode of Letterman of Leno.

If you want to see more of it again, I guess you could see the movie that came out earlier last month
There may be some spoilers in the trailer, but none of the dialogue is translated, forcing those who don't know Japanese to extrapolate for themselves what happened.

Considering this is set over 11 years in the future, I won't fault them with taking license on how a late night talk show may look.
