Shin Buun: Return of Nabeshin!

The "shin buun" (or "new buzz") is a quick round-up of the day's tidbits.

 Shinichi Watanabe, or Nabeshin
 Shinichi Watanabe, or Nabeshin
Hopefully now that I'm working out more regular hours, I can get back into the habit of doing these news roundups. Let's give it a shot!

Several of us here at Vice are lucky enough to have attended events featuring anime director Shinichi "NabeShin" Watanabe, of Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemi, and Wallflower fame (not to mention his various cameos): in 2008 I attended his panel at A-Kon, as did John, and I believe Len saw him at 2009's Anime Central. Word is now that he'll appear at a third con for this year (the first two being KamiKazeCon and Acen): Pacific Media Expo, which goes down Nov. 6-8 in LA. I don't think any Vice staff will be there, but if any readers are planning to attend, give me a heads-up!

While we're on the convention front-- I'm glad I didn't go out of my way to make plans for Yaoi-Con, because the guest I'd have been the most interested in talking to has just cancelled due to health concerns. Hopefully the prolific yaoi mangaka Haruka Minami is doing just fine.

Finally, Sankaku Complex reports that the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan is preparing once again to ban loli materials. It didn't pass the first time, so hopefully there's nothing to worry about on that front.
