Shin Buun: One Scareburger with Cries, Please

An occasional round-up of news scraps.

Word is that TV Asahi is going to air a horror special anime series this October, titled Kaidan Restaurant (“Thriller Restaurant”). which looks like it'll be aimed at the relative young'uns. Or at least people with no attention span: each episode will contain three stories-- an appetizer, a “main dish,” and a dessert. Except for the dessert, they'll all feature the young heroine Ako Oozora.

I'm sure you will be shocked to hear that One Piece is Japan's biggest shounen manga title in the male aged 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, and 40-50 demographics. Women are only slightly more varied; 10-20 and 40-50 year old women favor Kimi ni Todoke and Nodame Cantabile, respectively, while the 20-30 and 30-40 groups are more into Nana.

America may be all a-buzz about Hayao Miyazaki's latest work, but Studio Ghibli has more than one director. Isao Takahata has revealed that his next film will, like Ponyo, be based in part on an old folk tale (don't forget that Ponyo has roots within Japan's own Urashima Tarou as well as The Little Mermaid). That tale, however, is one you've all assuredly come across: The Woodcutter's Tale, the story of Kaguya-hime, discovered as a baby in a bamboo plant.

Finally, the Hollywood Reporter keeps us well-informed on the latest developments for the Hollywood adaptation of the manhwa Priest: Maggie Q, who you may remember from Mission: Impossible III and Live Free or Die Hard, will join Paul Bettany in the flick

And with that tip of the hat, I leave you be for the evening. Sleep well!

I keep meaning to watch more One Piece.  I watched several episodes and loved it, but it fell out of my radar at some point.  I think I got as far as Luffy getting caught by a clown pirate.

Dig Deeper into Nodame Cantabile

A popular manga series featuring a scatterbrained, sloppy but incredibly talented piano player and an anal-retentive would-be conductor.
