Shin Buun 06/10/09: Press Release Roundup!

Daily tidbits, press releases, and more.

Most of today's items come from the half-dozen press releases I've received in the last ~24-36 hours. There's kind of a lot now, so let's get started!

Let's start with the Anime Expo releases: AX has announced the schedule for their 24-hour shuttle, as well as announcing “AX After Dark,” which isn't anywhere as cool or pornographic as it sounds. That said, it'll still include late-night programming including midnight karaoke and tabletop gaming, so that's spiffy.

Then there's VIZ, who reminds us that they've now got a full channel on the Sony Playstation Network, featuring its three biggest titles, Naruto (uncut), Bleach, and Death Note, in case the glut of web-based locales and Cartoon Network weren't enough for you.

VIZ also sent out an intro to some of the Japanese street fashion boutiques opening up in the Jpop Culture Center that's opening up in August, including Baby the Stars Shine Bright and SOU SOU, which I think is new.

And of course, the day wouldn't be complete without some Crunchyroll! The site issued a note that it had acquired four new films from Kadokawa Pictures USA, and that they've implemented some new technology to make their online streaming more smoothly than before. Woohoo!

That's it for press releases, but there are still a few more tidbits:

  • I know a lot of you have been waiting for Romeo x Juliet, which comes out on June 23rd, and FUNi has announced that they'll be featuring the series on Gaia Online, where users are encouraged to talk about their first loves. Honestly, I'm kind of scared to see what all the 12-14 year olds think about their first loves.
  • ANN rounded up a few new trailers so that I didn't have to-- including one for Spice and Wolf II (yay!)
  • Diva is unhappy with this development.

More talk on Blood today-- ICv2 notes that the new live-action film will screen at Wizard World Philadelphia, while Robert's Anime Corner Blog wonders why the heck Sony hasn't released season two of Blood+ yet. I can only assume the first season didn't sell well enough for them to prioritize it, which is sad, because I love that show.
  • And finally, Comic Natalie reports that Nodame Cantabile's creator, Tomoko Ninomiya, is creating a new spinoff series of manga shorts called Nodame Cantabile Backstage, or Noda-Can BS. (That's backstage. BACKSTAGE I SAY.) It'll focus primarily on supporting characters rather than the leads, which is awesome because the supporting characters in that show are so fantastic.

Whew, I think that's about everything this time around. I'm getting kinda sweaty now. Better go rehydrate. All this typing is quite a workout. I wish they had some kind of meter to determine how many calories it burns. Kinda like a pedometer, but for typing instead of walking. Hmm...

The New Spice and Wolf 2 trainler looks amazing and it looks like Lawrence may have some competition for Horo.
