A new pickup for Sentai Filmworks.

I just got a press release with Section 23 Films' upcoming December releases, which include what I believe is a new license: To Love Ru, the boy-meets-alien shounen rom-com. It's "Collection 1" and will feature 13 episodes with an SRP of $39.98, due out on December 15th.

Also coming out are the second collections of CLANNAD After Story (13 episodes, $39.98, December 8th) and Ghost Hound (11 episodes, $59.98, December 15th), and a couple more live-action flicks: Makiriko / Battler Sienne Matra, a two-movie "sword & sorcery double feature" for $19.98 due out December 1st, plus Gun-Kyu ~ War Pigeon, due December 8th for $19.98.

All of the releases are sub-only. The press release is in the cut below.

Whether or not you like To Love-Ru, that's cool that ADV, oops, I mean Section 23, are still bringing in new licenses. To Love-Ru is one of those titles that I thought would never get picked up here in the US. But from what I've seen of it it is fun stuff that you don't need to be serious about. I'll pick it up when it gets here.

@JohnnySake: I just hope that the licenses pay off-- especially with Ghost Hound priced as it is. It's a gorgeous series and I want to buy the first collection when it comes out later this month, but like the second volume, its SRP is $58.98, which feels like a lot these days. Since it's also not a very well-known series in the US-- though I'll do what I can to build some awareness here --I just don't know that it will do well.

To Love Ru is more or less a moe fanservice show, and moe doesn't sell as well here as it does in Japan-- moe fans tend to be harder-core fans who tend to download fansubs and not buy DVDs, I suspect. Not to mention it's a year older now, so most of its target audience is already moving on to the new shows.

I hope they do well, of course, but I worry...
