Section 23 Brings On Alien Princesses and Lingerie

And I'm not talking about Lum.

 Brighter than the Dawning Blue

Section 23 just issued a new press release for their upcoming June releases, including two new licenses. The first is Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro Na, to be titled Brighter than the Dawning Blue. The story revolves around a young woman named Feena Fam Earthlight who, in spite of her name, is a princess from the Sphere kingdom and new to Earth. She moves in with high schooler Asagiri Tatsuya, the son of the first assistant to the president (...of Earth?), to learn about Earth culture. Sounds like a cute rom-com.

 La Corda d'Oro ~primo passo~
 La Corda d'Oro ~primo passo~
Also licensed is the first season (or ~primo passo~) of the shoujo reverse-harem fantasy La Corda d'Oro, about a young woman who is gifted with a magical violin and winds up surrounded by considerably more talented musicians than herself in her school's elite music program. The manga runs in the same anthology as Ouran High School Host Club and Vampire Knight (Hakusensha's LaLa), but from what little I saw in the anime, whose second season aired on Crunchyroll, it wasn't super exciting

No, the series that I'm sure will get the most attention is Papillon Rose, an OVA and TV series that lives to mock magical girl shows like Sailor Moon and Cutie Honey. It's also known as "Lingerie Soldier Papillon Rose," if that tells you anything, and the story of the series' creation is pretty amusing.

Basically, Papillon Rose started out as a joke created by a doujinshi group called ECHIGOYA, who created a website, a few pictures, and wrote lyrics to theme songs. People found the page and thought it was an actual series, and in 2003 the studio Pink licensed the concept to create an actual show. After the show was created, more meta stuff came out: an episode guide for a nonexistant first season of the anime and equally nonexistant manga, covers and notes from the fictional mangaka, and amateur voice actors even provided sample character voices and whatnot.

In spite of the name-- and the theme-- I'm told that there's no sex or even particularly graphic nudity in the series, perhaps disappointingly.

The schedule, for those of you too lazy to look through the press release:
  • 6/1/10 - Brighter than the Dawning Blue Complete Collection $49.98)
  • 6/8/10 - Papillon Rose Complete Collection ($34.98)
  • 6/15/10 - Clannad Complete Collection (The original TV + Extra + OVA, no After Story, but with the English dub; $69.98)
  • 6/22/10 - La Corda d'Oro Primo Passo Collection 1 ($49.98)
  • 6/29/10 - Gintama Collection 2 ($49.98)

What say you? I'm pretty excited to see Papillon Rose myself! <3

If the CLANNAD COMPLETE COLLECTION is the one with both dubs and subs then I'm getting it.

A dub of Clanned sweet, thought $69.99 sounds a bit much for a dvd release....maybe if it were blu ray

devilleonx, you're not going to be asked to pay $69.99 for Clannad, that is the "list" price, which nobody should ever be paying.  Amazon's price is probably going to be about $40.  The combined list price of the first season subbed is $79.96, which makes the new release a major improvement in price and features.

@devilleonx:@JD:
Seconded. Its kind of terrible, but I feel like the list price is usually always a deal breaker for me. If I was actually paying 40 for collection 1 of xyz, or 70 for the full series, I'd probably say game off. I dunno why the list prices are even at that level, if you can swing a cat and find them for 20 bucks cheaper all the time.

Today I'll link somewhere other than Right Stuf. Robert's Anime Corner has it for 50

Yeah I know that just the SRP and the real price will cheaper , but if the SRP was lower then it is then the Real price would be cheaper even more so!

@devilleonx: haha, marketing tactics just go so far above my head.
