I vowed to stick with this series until episode six but - - don’t they always just getchya - - I really just have to keep watching, now. I want to see how next episode’s infamous twist spills out.
Sure, I'm probably able to guess what that twist is, and I can probably picture it rather accurately… but that’s not good enough. I’ve got to see it for myself. Serial Storytelling at its most diabolical, right here.
What makes it even more diabolical, actually, is that while the series has rolled along, it’s just kept hitting all of the same general notes as KICK-ASS, SUPER, DEFENDOR, et al. However, it's gone to show that it really does all come down to execution; because even though Samumenco’s stationary arsenal is an all-too-familiar gag, it still kept getting the chuckles out of me.
I guess it's because our hero is just so earnest as he uses these weapons. And that’s the same reason I’m amused by all the sitcom shenanigans they keep unfolding with our regular cop friend and his Canadian Girlfriend. All the ridiculous circumstances he keeps finding himself in with Flamenco and Flamenco Girl are that much funnier because he’s just so frazzled about having to deal with them. Upholding the cliché, character really does trump all else… even originality and inspiration, sometimes.
To hazard a guess, I’ll presume that in the next episode, shit will get real when real-life supervillains start showing up. A wild idea, no? They’ll either be more malevolent copycats, looking to join the fun, or they’ll be legit evildoers who’ve been around for a long time. Samumenco’s granddad has only be alluded to them in his journals, and they’ve been dramatized into cartoons throughout this whole, long sentai tradition… but they’ve always been there, and they’re not happy about this do-gooder stepping into their business.
Am I getting warm?
