SaiMoe Returns! Pick Your Winners!
If you've spent much time in the seedy underbelly of the online anime fandom (and/or 4chan), you know SaiMoe, Japan's yearly tournament to determine what female character is the most “moe.”
This year's SaiMoe preliminaries are over, and the brackets are set! Since I can't post the entire giant image, here's a lengthy listing so you don't miss out. B1, Holo's my favorite character but she's too strong to be very "moe," so I guess I should vote for Rei Ayanami. Then again, "moe" is just supposed to be your turn-on, so maybe I should vote Holo after all? For B2 I'd go with Isumi...though I expect Mio to take it.
C1, Louise; C2, Kiri Komori, both of those are hands-down. D1, I vote Amu Hinamori, because I loooooove me some Shugo Chara!, and D2, I wish I could see Evangelion 2.0 so I can decide if Mari Makinami is worth my vote.
Christ, this never ends! E1, the Dorm Mistress from MariaHolic, because that's freakin' awesome. I'd easily hand E2 to Kanako, also from MariaHolic. <3 F1 is all Maria from Hayate the Combat Butler, though I kinda think Taiga will take it...F2, YOKO YOKO YOKO YOKO.
My vote for G1 goes to Yuki Nagato, but given fans' anger with the Endless Eight, I'm not sure any Haruhi characters will do very well this year...G2, I love me some Nena Trinity. Almost done now...H1 is all Sheryl, though I expect the Macross voters to be split between Sheryl and Ranka, leaving neither with the win. And finally, H2...Imo-chan from TokiKake Girl is too cute :D
Whew. Let's see...I originally wanted the Hikikomori to win, but now that I think about it, I really think Yoko or Amu should take it. As for who WILL? Hinagiku from Hayate the Combat Butler is hugely popular, and so is Mio Akiyama...I'd bet on one of them.
For the record, last year's winner was Kagami Hiiragi from Lucky Star, the year prior to that was Rika Furude. In 2006 it was Suiseiseki from Rozen Maiden and in 2005, Nanoha's titular magical girl.

I'm rooting for Asuka from Evangelion to win myself, though I got a feeling that Mio (or Azusa- basically the K-On girls in general) may be the one to beat.
@gia: That picture for Kyon no imouto is actually a picture of Yuichi Aizawa and Makoto from Kanon.
Meh... this year's looks pretty boring...
The usual Kyoani fest is gonna take over the top 8 for sure, maybe even most of the top 16... I can read the general outcome already...
Chances are there'll be maybe ONE in the top four that I'll care about, but she won't even get close to winning unless something huge happens. Also, I really wish Lucky Star was out of the vote. A character won last year, the only thing that even showed last year was one barely 40 minute long OVA, and they're just gonna upset the odds of other characters in the lower levels that might otherwise have a decent chance of making some headway.
My obvious favorites out of the selection would be Ryougi Shiki (of course), Kyou Fujibayashi, Tomoyo Sakagami, and Hinagiku. Of those the latter three stand a fair chance of getting to the top 16, the latter 2 stand a fair chance of getting into the top 8, and the only one that I won't be surprised by if she makes it into the final four would be Hinagiku. It's sad, but Ryougi realistically doesn't have great odds at all... she hasn't been performing well in the ISML either. I'm just bummed Azaka didn't make it in, because she could've seriously done some damage by comparison... too bad she was such a far off side-character till only a week ago.
Pardon my tongue: But how the heck are Yoko, Shirley, Kallen, Winry and Misato considered moe? They seem more attractive than moe in my book. And if this is a tourney for moe girls, why aren't any of the Gunslinger Girls in this?
But I'm pretty sure that one of the K-on girls are going to take it this year.
Although I get the feeling this year is going to be worse.
