SaiMoe: Mikuru Wins After All!

Only one major surprise here, but honestly, I'm pretty shocked.

Today's Battles: 8/23

Maria
Maria
Well, most of us were right that Combat Butler Hayate's Maria cleaned her way to the win in her bracket, but not by quite as large a margin as I expected-- Saki's Touka Ryuumonbuchi did pretty well in second place. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei's Nami Hitou at least didn't end in last place, while Chaos;Head's Rimi Sakihata did.

Mizore Shirayuki
Mizore Shirayuki
Meanwhile, Rosario + Vampire's yuki-onna Mizore...wait for it...SNOWED the competition. I knew I liked her for a reason. Interestingly, Code Geass' Anya Alstreim took a decent second place, although characters from mega-series like that haven't done so well this year. Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka's Tsukasa Kiryuu and Kanokon's Chizuru Minamoto lost out big-time, of course.

Mikuru Asahina
Mikuru Asahina
I'm kind of shocked to see that The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's Mikuru picked up the win over Kagami by a solid 178 points; as I said in my predictions yesterday, I expected the Endless Eight backlash to put Lucky Star's Kagami at the top. Zero no Tsukaima's buxom maid Siesta was too busy trying to seduce the series' hero to even try, and Feldt was going all emo over her parents at the time. Sigh!

Nagisa Furukawa
Nagisa Furukawa
But no one should be surprised that CLANNAD's heroine, Nagisa Furukawa, squashed School Rumble's Eri Sawachika, MariaHolic's Shizu Shidou, and Maria-sama ga Miteru's Touko Matsudaira. The CLANNAD is strong in this one, kids.

The Next Battles: 8/24

  • Strawberry Marshmallow's ANA COPPOLA vs Queen's Blade's NANAEL vs KimiKiss' ASUKA SAKINO vs Clannad's GIRL OF THE ILLUSORY WORLD
  • A Certain Magical Index's KUROKO SHIRAI vs Strawberry Marshmallow's MIU MATSUOKA vs Code Geass' TIANZI vs Higurashi no Naku Koro ni's SHION SONOZAKI
  • Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou's KOYOMI MORISHITA vs Saki's MIHARU YOSHITOME vs Toradora!'s AMI KAWASHIMA vs Zero no Tsukaima's IRUKUKU
  • Zettai Karen Children's AOI NOGAMI vs Lucky Star's NANAKO KUROI vs Kodomo no Jikan's KURO KAGAMI vs Negima!?'s YUE AYASE

My Predictions: Ana Coppola, Shion, and..we haven't seen how Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou's been doing, and we've seen that we can never discount a Saki character, so i'm torn between Koyomi, Miharu, and Ami. We'll see! Moving on, I'd guess Yue for the final battle, as much as I'd love it to be Kuro from KoJika.

And the day after that, Yoko makes what will almost certainly only be her first appearance! <3

Your Turn!

Good round I just knew Mizore would win and good that Mikuru won too. Siesta loosing is just icing on the cake lol

What??? How did Kagami lose to Mikuru??? Probably entirely out of spite for winning last year would be my bet...

And Mizore beat Chizuru? I guess some of the people over there voting do have taste after all...
Sigueon Aug. 23, 2009 at 12:32 p.m.
Weird. I expected Kagami to beat Mikuru over the head with a log.

Mizore...Natch!
Mikuru over Kagami?  Moe over Tsundere...... Shocker!
but Nagisa over Eri?!?! Giga-Shocker!!!

@Netstryke: Tsundere is generally considered a moe subcategory, y'know. So "moe over tsundere" is kinda weird ;)

Dig Deeper into Moe

Moe (pronounce moh-eh) is a Japanese slang term for something one likes, and within the anime realm is used to refer to characters who inspire a protective sort of love-- usually because the characters seem to need someone to take care of them.
