SaiMoe: K-On! Loses to Saki?

Today's SaiMoe check-in-- the last before the Comiket break!

SaiMoe rages on. Let's see how everyone did on their predictions for today.

Mio has a Geass?
Mio has a Geass?
Strike Witch's Mio Sakamoto took home the gold against Minamike's Yoshino, Hayate the Combat Butler's Risa Asakaze, and Minamike's Riko (how did two Minamike competitors wind up in the same bracket in the first round anyway? That seems odd to me.)

Konoka
Konoka
Meanwhile, Negima's slew of moegirls finally took home a win with Konoka Konoe, who kicked Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu's lead, creamed Strawberry Marshmallow's Nobue Itou, and killed Hayate's Shiori Makimura. Aww.

Kyon no Imouto
Kyon no Imouto
If Haruhi fans are still wrathful about Endless Eight, it may not have stretched outside of the show's lead characters. First Tsuruya and now Kyon no Imouto have won in their brackets; Kyon no Imouto fended off Wagaya no Oinari-sama's Kuugen, Sekirei's Musubi, and Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka's Karen.

Momoko
Momoko
Finally, a big surprise: K-On!'s Tsumugi did NOT win her bracket. One hundred and seventy points ahead stands Saki's Momoko Touyoko, with Pani Poni Dash!'s Becky and Utawarerumono's Aruru in the dust behind.

How'm I Doing: Half of my predictions were right, but I expected Haruka Nogizaka and Tsumugi to win their brackets...

The Next Battles

There are no new competitions until August 17th, as a huge chunk of those who would vote in SaiMoe will be attending Comiket instead. That said, the next competitions are:
  • Hayate the Combat Butler's YUKIJI KATSURA vs Koihime Musou's SOUSOU MOUTOKU vs Yozakura Quartet's AO NANAMI vs Clannad's MISAE SAGARA
  • Maria-sama ga Miteru's YUMI FUKUZAWA vs Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei's RIN ITOSHIKI vs Strike Witches' ERICA HARTMANN vs Evangelion's MARI ILLUSTRIOUS MAKINAMI
  • Valkyria Chronicles' ALICIA MELCHIOTT vs TokiKake Girl's AKIHA SHISHIDOU vs Kodomo no Jikan's RIN KOKONOE vs School Rumble's YAKUMO TSUKAMOTO
  • TokiKake Girl's ITSUKI KANNAGI vs Macros Frontier's RANKA LEE vs Ef's MIZUKI HAYAMA vs Cooking Idol Ai! Mai! Main!'s MAIN HIIRAGI

My predictions:Yukiji Katsura's comedy is pretty popular in Japan, but I don't think she herself is...so I guess I'll guess Clannad's Misae will take that one. I'm reeeeally curious to see how Mari Makinami does, but I think she's too new to win, so I'd bet on Erica Hartmann. I favor Rin over Alicia but Yakumo is pretty popular too, so I don't actually have a guess for the third competition...and then, how can Ranka Lee lose against the others in her bracket?

How did you do with your predictions? And what do you think'll happen next?

Personally I didn't find Momoko's victory over Mugi a surprise at all.  Even before the tournament began when I was filling out my brackets, I had Momoko beating her.  Add to the fact that the Saki girls have so far gone undefeated & that Mio lost her first round (who's way more popular than Mugi), & this round practically wrote itself.

Stealth Momo beats out Mugi.
 Major Upset!

I guess most of us didn't see that one coming.

Dig Deeper into Moe

Moe (pronounce moh-eh) is a Japanese slang term for something one likes, and within the anime realm is used to refer to characters who inspire a protective sort of love-- usually because the characters seem to need someone to take care of them.
