Welcome to your first-ever Required ! Although I’ll be posting on the weekend as the news merits, I wouldn’t dream of leaving you without some geeky stuff to read, so I’ll collect up the week’s best write-ups and offer them up to you to peruse as you see fit. Here’s this week’s!
- Not specifically anime-related, but apparently CNN has figured out that fangirls might be “the next ‘it’ demographic.” I’m kind of torn on this one, personally…I’m happy to see we geek girls finally get some credit, but on the other hand, why is this new news? We’ve been the driving force of fandoms for a good long while, both here and in . What do you think?
- Speaking of being behind on the trends, the UK-based Independent has finally noticed that manga is popular! Actually, the write-up talks a lot about how manga manages to appeal to people so far outside of ’s popular culture, and is definitely an interesting read. (Especially for those of you less familiar with the genre.)
- Simon Jones posts, at his usually NSFW blog, a couple of excellent reads: a breakdown of how much it costs to publish your own doujinshi in Japan and how much you’re likely to get in return, and the costs of print-on-demand publishing here in the States.
- ComiPress talks up the comics market in , and the recent impact of Chinese manhua on the economy.
- And finally…while this isn't the best-written article I've ever linked to, it’s an interesting take on the history of 4kids anime.
That should keep you guys off the streets and out of bars for a couple’a days, right?
…Right?
