Real WTF Wednesday: Coca-Cola Loves Air Gear

Air Gear reaches into Coca-Cola’s deep pockets.

Product placement in anime/manga is nothing new; hell if it wasn’t for Code Geass, Pizza Hut would be out of business. Now things have changed. Instead of the product just showing up in the background in some random panel, the entire story is about the product. Such is the case with Oh! Great’s Air Gear, which just launched an exclusive side-story in Coca-Cola’s Happy Teen’s Club. Though this is only available to club members; more specifically, happy teens, all 12 of them. To be a member you have to register (do it all in Japanese), and declare that you are between 13 and 19 years old.

Since I’m a honest man, I can not in good nature sign up for the Happy Teen Club. But I can sort of guess what the story is going to be about. After a hard day’s race on their Air Trecks Ikki and crew need some sort of beverage to qualm their unyielding thirst. Thankfully Coca-Cola is there and everyone’s happy. But wait! Cell descends from the heavens holding a Pepsi and declares that only one drink can rule them all. Which begins the Pepsi Presents: The Cell Games.

So go now young ones and sign up, learn what troubles await our heroes and how their problems can be washed away with delicious soda.

Did Pizza Hut really sell that well from Code Geass? I do remember seeing a real photo of that odd looking pizza that was shown in the second season. Looks like it had little pigs in a blanket for a crust.
I kind of blame Pizza Hut for the reason we wont get that Code Geass DS RPG in the US. The Pizza Hut boxes are all through that game. I think they are the treasure chests and there are logo signs.
So, that's a problem with those kind of placements if they can keep us from getting content in the US.

I haven't drank a soda in a few years now. I do buy a two liter once ever few months though. The stuff works wonders on a clogged drain and pouring one down every few months keeps them running well. Honestly, it's scary how well a two liter of cola works as a clog remover.
