Quickie: FUNimation Says Cheap Anime For All!

Well, some of it.

 We cost...how much now?...
 We cost...how much now?...
Word over at Anime on DVD is that FUNimation is dropping the prices on a few of its titles: Shigurui's complete series box set is now $44.98 on both DVD and the same price on Blu-Ray, though I continue to hear iffy reports on some of FUNi's Blu-Ray releases, so do your research before you run with it.

Also available on the cheap: Case Closed seasons 1 and 2 are $29.98 each, formerly $34.98, as is Tsukuyomi Moon Phase. These are MSRP, too, so your prices will be even lower at online retailers like Right Stuf and Amazon. (Actually, Amazon hasn't gotten the memo yet, but I'm sure it will in short order.)

Good times! Hopefully there'll be more price drops soon. Hey FUNi, isn't Soul Eater coming out soon?

this, this is good.  any price drop that allows the fan to get anime easier and lower profit margins for the guy on top.  but i still love capitalism :)

Awesome news for Cased Closed.

Perhaps this explains how I got Shigurui for £10 on Blu-Ray a few days ago (except the DVD was £25). Lower prices for Anime is great since the price compared to "normal" media is rather dear and stops me buying it and push me into watching it online when I would much rather buy it even before i find out if I like it. For example im happy to pay £15 to get the whole first series of Naruto just to find out if I like but im not willing to pay £50 to see if I like Trinity Blood and even if I do like it there isnt enough content to warrent £50 for me.

They've been dropping prices pretty regularly actually.  Once a month, or every other month (at least), I've noticed MSRP price drops from FUNi.

The US anime version of Detective Conan is even worse then the manga that is produced in the US. In the anime they even changed the suspects names. Making the solutions of a few cases completely nonsensical.
Though, I'm unaware if the DVDs actually have the option of Japanese audio with English subtitles. If so, that could still be a drastic improvement over the bile that VIZ produces, where no option is given.

I might actually be "slightly" interested in the DVDs if they have the proper names in the English subtitles.

The positive thing about DVDs is the option of having the Japanese audio if you want. I normally don't buy anime DVDs if they don't have the option of both.

Generally Anime DVD's always have japanese audio.  Funimation's titles are no exception.  In some cases though you get Dub only like the upcoming Kurokami release from Bandai.

As to whether they kept the original Japanese names that's a good question.  I think they use the original Japanese script but in a case like Soul Eater Funimation changed the name of Shinigami-sama to "Lord Death" and kept it in the subtitled episodes.

I agree completely. Though, if it matters to you, I have the Blu-Ray of Shigurui and have nothing negative to say about it.

The series... well, that's a different question, since its graphically violent and weird at time, but on my 32 inch HD I didn't notice anything funny. Though I don't use 5.1 sound, so dunno.

@Oneeyedjacks:
I dunno, I know why, and I think I prefer they leave the subtitles as unaltered/appropriate as possible, but it always annoys me if I do subtitles+Eng dub just to see how little they match up at times.

Man, you know what I'd like to get cheap? Kaiba

Make it happen, FUNi.
