Quick Picks for 4/12/11

Tongueless liars, fights to the death in cell phones, and girls with swords!

"Every Text Could Be Your Last" -- Future Diary

This week we are fully fed of manga courtesy of VIZ Media and TokyopopVIZ is releasing the second volume of Itsuwaribito, the story about Utsuho, and how he continues to live a mischievous life by always lying. I have not read the first volume, but I really want to. The story takes place in a village of orphans who are all raised by a monk. There, the troublemaking protagonist, alongside Dr. Yukuma and Pochi, his talking tanuki, encounter a man who hates liars, and therefore, cuts off their tongues.

 Future Diary Vol. 10
 Future Diary Vol. 10
Tokyopop is the publishing company behind one of my favorite manga series: Future Diary. This week the tenth volume of the manga is released and things are not looking well for Yukiteru. This series is about a boy who keeps a diary in his phone. His "imaginary" friend suddenly decides that his diary is the perfect opportunity to create a game. Yuki agrees but ignores the fact that his "imaginary" friend is in fact Deus Ex Machina, the god of time and space. Deus creates a game where twelve people who keep a phone diary will have to fight for survival and kill off each other by just using the powers granted by their diaries. In volume ten, the one that comes out this week, the twelve players are brought down to three: Yuki, his girlfriend, and his self-proclaimed caretaker.
 Ga-Rei-Zero
 Ga-Rei-Zero
FUNimation once again manages to catch my eye with its anime releases. This week the company is distributing the limited edition, complete series of Ga-Rei-Zero. This anime is about two sword-toting sisters who give the appearance of normal school girls. When monsters creep out of the darkness, it is them to whom you go to for help. These two girls spend their days doing everything together, which includes decapitating creatures with sacred blades. This week, you can get all twelve episodes of this series in either DVD or Blu-Ray.

Is there something in the lists below that you want to have?

sora, I'm pretty sure Ga-Rei-Zero is a DVD/BD combo pack. I mean, just look at the price and the fact its only 12 or 13 eps. Wish it had a second season because it's an interesting show. Not sure if I'll care for the dub though.

Future Diary sounds cool. I think Tokyopop does a good job so I'll have to take a look at the first volume.

Nothing for me.  I caught part of the first episode of Zero years ago on fansub and there was a scene early in the episode with cheesy rock music and a guy riding a motorcycle backwards while shooting guns at a monster or something equally ridiculous.  That was enough to turn me off forever.

Oh yeah! My bad! That "or" needs to be an "and"!

This is a really good book! I highly recommend it! (The anime's pilot was supposed to air late last year... I don't know what happened there.)

Eh, nothing really for me this week.

If I had the money to drop $60 on a DVD of Needless or Ga-Rei Zero I would, but alas...

Nothing much that interest me this week...I am watching Needless at the moment, and if it continues to be as good as the 1st 4 episodes have been, then I would be interested in owning the Complete Collection, if it was not $60.
