Quick Picks: 1/26/2011

It's a big week for Yen Press picks.

Remember all those times where the Quick Picks were filled with manga releases and the anime seemed like a dull list of uninterested series? Well this week is nothing like that since there's a lot of both anime and manga to choose from.

Yen Press is dominant in the manga list as it releases some of the most interesting titles this week. For starters, High School of the Dead fans should rejoice, since the first volume of the manga is on sale this week. Also, if you like the story of Oz Bezarius and his mysterious contract Alice - the loudmouth, headstrong heroine who searches for her lost memories- then this is your lucky day. Yen Press is releasing volume four of the Pandora Hearts manga, and NIS is releasing the anime's second box set.

 The Presumed "Headless Horsman" in Durarara!!
You get a variety to pick from in this week's anime release list. If you are looking for the ones based on the most popular franchises anime has out now, then, it would be good to take note that Naruto: Shippuden and One Piece have their own Uncut DVD sets out this week.

Aniplex is releasing the first part of the popular Durarara!! series. The confusing story is about  Mikado Ryūgamine and his reunion with his childhood friend Kida Masaomi. They are both flung into an adventure that involves crazy otaku, "colored" gangs and a certain "headless horseman" who uses a yellow helmet to hide her rumored decapitated top.

Head to the lists and find out any relevance to your anime taste. After you find it be sure to share your picks for this week by commenting below.

It's nice to see the second volume of Book Girl on this list. I'm actually getting it delivered to my campus inbox as I make this post! Although, it's weird to see it listed under "Manga releases," since I'd categorize it as a Light Novel. I didn't realize that it took this long for High School of the Dead to be released over here as a manga, I thought we had that license for a long time already and already had a few U.S. volume releases.

If I were to buy one of the anime releases listed here, it'd definitely be Durarara!! It's interesting to see that anime releases as of late are either the entire series or a huge chunk of it.

I'm just waiting for the Kara no Kyoukai  U.S. release myself, even if it is going to cost me several of hundred dollars I might actually be willing to make the purchase myself.

Damn it, I really need some money for at least one of those anime titles.

the Headless Horseman is female.

 hey are both flung into an adventure that involves crazy otaku, "colored" gangs and a certain "headless horseman" who uses a yellow helmet to hide her rumored decapitated top.

@kapwan: aha, you may think you've saved the world from near destruction by pointing out such awful misconceptions. But really all you've done is spoiled a small part of a story that runs a bit like a mystery. Good Job, the headless horseman is The Stig

@EquitasInvictus: I did know that it was a Light Novel, but I realized it would be easier to add it to the Manga list rather than creating a Miscellaneous list just for Book Girl.
@metalsnakezero: Which one do you want? (The cheapest is Pokemon but that sounds uninteresting)
@kapwan: I fixed it... but @ezdude: is not wrong, I had only watched the first two episodes of the series, so I didn't even know it was a she yet.
Kapwanon Jan. 26, 2011 at 4:20 p.m.
@ezdude:   My bad I didn't think that was a spoiler.  I thought it was revealed in a moment during the first episode, but I haven't watched the show since it originally aired.   I won't say anything else about the characters.

HOTD is all I want from this week. I will most likely pick the volume up by next month.

@sotyfan16:
Don't make the same mistake I did and think you will find it in stores. Call ahead first.

I was all excited this month waiting for the release of Highschool of the Dead Vol1. My local Borders is only selling it online and not in stores. I did eventually order it online,.....through Amazon for a lot less than what Borders wanted for it online.

@sora_thekey:
Its pretty obvious its Durarara I want the most.
