Anime Vice News

Quick Picks: 1/18/11

22.22% of the people who read manga and watch anime keep their manga/anime-fascination to themselves. The 77.78% of you out there, here's this week's picks!

Dark Horse and Viz Media have taken over this week's manga releases and while nothing catches my eye specifically, it would be good to take note that Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 24 is out this week. All of you who are fans of the anime, and have been following Tom Pinchuk's Watch and Learn articles, will probably want to add this book to your collection.
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom -A series about a amnesiac couple (Zwei and Ein) who are forcefully made into killing machines- is the anime that caught my attention this week. The anime seems to involve enough action and internal battles of the protagonists that create an interesting story to watch. Then again, it has the potential to be every Angelina Jolie action flick rolled into a series. This week, part one and two of this action-packed anime are out.

Another notable anime release is the Complete Blu-Ray Box Set of Read or Die (R.O.D.). After a novelist with writer's block and three sisters that run a detective agency that involves books meet, the bond created between these characters could decide the fate of the world. The 26-episode series and 3-episode OVA are included in this blu-ray box set, plus a 48-page booklet in deluxe packaging.

The lists are a bit smaller than usual, but I'm sure that there might be something you like from this week's releases. Be sure to comment below and share what it is.

Already have in my hands Dorohedoro vol. 3 in English  tonight's bedtime reading yeah! :)
The Mardock scramble novel has caught my atention too, didn't knew that viz was publishing it.
As for the anime releases the ROD collection pack is tempting but  $199 is a little too much for my budget :S

Phantom! The Limited Edition for Part 1 includes a hard box that fits both parts of the series and a bullet necklace.

@shels: I agree... $199 is a bit too much. Although, I'm sure some hardcore fans of the anime will buy it.

@sotyfan16: I forgot to mention that in there. Thanks!

I'm really surprised Kampfer made its way to the U.S. I felt like its premise was a little too out-there to inspire a U.S. license.

It's also nice to see that My-Otome 0 Sifr made its way here - I sort of appreciate My-Otome in general a lot more than I should simply because it was one of the first anime series I've ever marathoned on my own.

When it comes down to it, I'd probably invest in My-Otome 0 Sifr. However, I'm still taking care of some semester textbook expenses first so I'll probably avoid these types of purchases for this week. 'xD

I really want Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom but it cost so much. Guess I'll have to wait till I can get some money.

I have to shack my head at Sentai Filmworks for spending money on Kempfer license when they should get better shows.

@metalsnakezero: I'm tempted to get Phantom if Tom is going to continue to do his Watch and Learn articles on the anime.

Afterschool Charisma Volume 2 I will have to get, since I won Volume One on one of AnimeVice's giveaways last summer. I enjoy the series so far, and it shows promise.
Hmm...honestly surprised that Sentai Filmworks decided to bring Kampfer to the USA and other markets...it was a decent ecchi/harem show with some action parts, but I do not think that it will be worth it. The last 2 episodes were awful compared to the first 10 episodes, so I will pass.

Magic Knight Rayearth omnibus edition?  I know about the CCS & Clover ones...  I'm sensing that Dark Horse have bought CLAMP's souls ;)
