Queen's Blade, or How I learned to squeeze acid from my boobs, holds a special spot in my heart. Well, now it can have a spot on my shelf.

Media Blasters just announced that they had procured the distribution and translation rights to both this and Ikkitousen: Great Guardians. While Ikkitousen should come as no surprise (they had the prior series,) I'm glad they picked up the translation rights... because a terribly corny English dub is probably going to be the only thing that gets me to watch the series again. It wasn't awful, in fact, parts were so bad they were funny, but seriously now.

Now I know what you're thinking, "But John, I clicked that trailer. It doesn't look too over the top or anything..."

That's epic I guess.  I haven't watched either of those two series yet but, good news for the fans!

This show appeals to me.  But I am unsophisticated and uncouth.

You knew someone was going to buy the rights to Queen's Blade.  I just though it would have been Funimation and not Media Blasters.

@FoxxFireArt: I think some people find Strike Witches more worrisome because of the utter loliness, fwiw. But yes, they are both decidedly...pandering. ;)

@gia:
I think it's only worrisome if you actually find loli stuff arousing.

I haven't had a chance to watch any of this series, but it seems more violent fetish. It was part of the reason why I couldn't finish the first season of Ikki Tousen. That series seems to have a bit too much implied rape for my liking.

Of course. It's been far too long since anime caused a controversy. If any recent import from Japan is going to get conservative panties in a bunch, this will be it

I love how Media Blaster's CEO John Sirabella just randomly blurted out the license announcement on the Anime on DVD forums. In a FUNimation thread, no less.

I would watch this if Media Blasters does what ADV Films did with Ghost Stories but than again Queen's Blade actually probably sold somewhat over in Japan so they wouldn't be as willing to have any changes (even awesomely hilarious ones)  in the dub.

What did they do with Ghost Stories?
@Niko: That's hilarious! Really?

@Niko: That's just the way Jon *rolls*, man. 'Cause he's a rebel, man!

Someday I want him to switch it up and surprise everyone by posting an announcement here. And I STILL probably wouldn't notice it first ;)

So as I alluded to Ghost Stories didn't sell well in Japan at all this caused the licensor Aniplex to allow ADV to do pretty much anything to sell it with the exception of basic plot points and ghosts for the most part. So one of the ADV writers rewrote most of the script and the voice actors themselves ad-libbed many parts of it. What happened is a more comedic and fairly blue script that made numerous references to real world pop culture and breaking the 4th wall on many occasions. It's really funny I'd recommend checking it out. Although if you're the type that might get offended easily than you might not like it.

So for example some of the stuff they changed is they changed one character Momoko from a somewhat devout christian that had psychic powers to a super evangelical Pentecostal Christian who always mentions God, Jesus or some random passage from the bible after almost every sentance and seems slightly crazy. (At Fan Expo 2009 [kind of like Comic-Con but 1/3rd the size and it's in Toronto] Monical Rial [Momoko's voice actor] at a QA session talked about how during some recording sessions she had this bible she bought that she would just read through to find random passages that would go with the dialog in some funny way) They also made another character (Reo/Leo) a stereotypical Jewish boy with an infereriorty complex. Oh they made this other girl have some kind of mix of borderline personality disorder and schizophrenia. Another character is made into a more perverted kid that's kind of an asshole. Oh the main characters mom is depicted as a lesbian.

Some clips of youtube.

And the most offensive and funniest clip.

@Konanda: Oh wow, gimmie. I want that series so bad now. Granted, that is an extreme, but I think the dub staff needs to be given more liberty in general. I mean, that looks horribly wrong (in a good way,) but even the more serious series suffer from parts that just don't translate as well. Comedies have to translate well if they are supposed to be funny.
