PSYCHO-PASS #4 - - Watch & Learn

Everybody dresses up like this for web surfing, right?

There’s something about the way the Japanese pronounce their “oo” sounds that just tickles me. So, between BTOOOM! (review forthcoming) and the frequent utterances of “Spooky Boogie” in this episode, I’ve been “Hoo hoo”-ing a lot today.

PSYCHO-PASS leans into some more familiar corners of cyberpunk in this outing, putting the crew into the sort of underworld where everybody’s hiding behind mysterious aliases and exotic avatars. Every other anime I run into these days seems to be about MMO’s gettin’ real, but this one actually takes an interesting angle by conflating the concept with cosplay. It’s one of those pointed observations that makes you feel kind-of stupid for not noticing it earlier, yourself. SURROGATES had a similar premise, but this presents it in a way that seems even more feasible.

In a lot of ways, people cosplaying at a con basically is the real life equivalent of picking an online persona and, considering the acceleration of both, we probably aren’t that far off from people just being able to buy a persona to wear out in public. And perhaps, in the long view, that would be part of an overall "mainstreaming" of the sort of secret society costume parties that have seemed so exotic in flicks like EYES WIDE SHUT.

That said - - it’s still pretty amusing that Spooky Boogie went through all that trouble to get an elaborate loli costume together just to work a keyboard at home (with nobody there to see her in it except her home invaders). But hey, fetishes are just inherently compulsive, right?

This episode was a much better procedural, but I think I was more taken with the notion of Tsunemori essentially seeking therapy through some mass audience online hub. Again, maybe it's not that far removed from Yahoo Answers... but if the show’s making some greater points about society trying to isolate emotions and personality problems as discrete scientific issues, then there’s something intriguing about seeing the simple practice of seeking relationship advice get wrapped up into a mass hallucination.

The only explanation and to be honest I didn't really pay her dressing up on first view any attention but in this episode these characters such as Spooky Boogie are Characters that people and fans know and love perhaps its easier for her to feel and act the part while dressed in the loli costume. *Shrug*

Well maybe it was more than just a costume to her, maybe she dresses this way at all times so it's not exactly cosplay.

I started watching this show because i seen your reviews. Now on episode 8 i feel like they are just getting the ball rolling. entertaining show .Btw i also get tickled on the oo's and how they say it lol i found my self repeating them like "spooookyy boooggiie" lol

The afor-mentioned Spooky Boogie probly didnt make the cotume.Rember they do holo cloths in this anime.Tho A focus like a costume to get into character is not unheard of.Those of us old enuff or know what Live Action Role Playing is . Larp for short . This is common practice among those players.

Friends of mine did that sort of thing.Even table top rpg we would have some wear a hat or a pin or sun glasses to get them into character.

That parts dead on.Had almost exact thought on the therapy audience thing.Tom ya seeing more of what i have seen in this show now?Oh an it gets better , deeper an darker .
