Press Release Round-Up

A big batch o'press releases!

I meant for these to go in yesterday's Shin Buun, but alas, there was just too much-- I decided to do a separate article. Let's trudge through these.

Psy*Comm
Psy*Comm
TOKYOPOP announced that they're going to start running some of their original manga online, starting with Psy*Comm volume 3. After that they'll move into Boys of Summer, Earthlight, Kat & Mouse, Pantheon High, Undertown, Gyakushu, and unnamed “others.”

I'm glad that Tpop is moving into online content other than their iManga, which I don't think ever did especially well...but I still worry that the focus on their original comics combined with their seeming refusal to market them to a non-manga crowd may cost them on the licensed-manga side. Although they've got SOME of their licensed works' first chapters online, which is a start. Besides, it'll be nice for fans who are tentatively interested in Tpop's originals to have a chance to check them out online before committing funds to them, given manga fans' overall reticence with works made outside of Asia.

Rental Magica

The New York Anime Festival has announced a new guest: Travis Willingham (aka the original Roy Mustang-- I say that only because we still don't know the FMA: Brotherhood dub cast), and that he is the first of over a half-dozen new guests who are going to be announced!

Nozomi Entertainment has issued a press release with info about their upcoming Rental Magica release, including the 100+ page guidebook and that you can view the series in the broadcast or chronological order, a la the Haruhi special edition sets.

Shuffle!
Shuffle!
JapanFiles has scored an early US release of HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR's newest album “swamp man.” You read that right: it's available on JapanFiles now, but it's not coming out in Japan until September 2nd. Mmm, delicious.

And last but not least, if watching the Shuffle! anime made you want to try out the eroge, you're in luck: the game is available from MangaGamers right now! But it's not cheap-- 36.95 Euros (or $52.88 USD). Ouch!

So what do you guys think of all this? Would you like to see TOKYOPOP really move into digital distro, or are you good with their books? Who do you think will be at NYAF? And would you spend $52 for an eroge?

Would I spend $52 on an eroge?
I already have -- but I bought Da Capo from MangaGamers months ago (which is even more expensive)

I'd pay that for an erogre if I made more money at my job.

Dig Deeper into Tokyopop

One of the highest-volume manga publishers in the U.S., with a recent refocusing more into their own original properties (although they continue to license works from other countries as well).
