Prepare for the Medusa Invasion: King of Thorn Movie Planned

Creepy sci-fi horror manga gets creepy sci-fi horror anime film.

King of Thorn
, a sci-fi horror manga from the mind of Yuuji Iwahara (also known for contributing character designs to Darker than Black), is set to get an anime film, according to SaiAni.

The story revolves around a girl who is one of 160 people with a mysterious disease known as Medusa who are chosen to go into cold sleep in hopes that in the future, a cure for the disease may be reachable. Unfortunately the group awakens nowhere near as far in the future as they'd hoped, and the disease has wrought destruction at a rate no one could have anticipated.

The survival horror flick is due out in 2010 and will be directed by Kazuyoshi Katayama, best known for helming The Big O and the 1988  Appleseed OVA. It'll actually be his first directorial gig since 2000's Argento Soma.

The six-volume manga has been released in English in its entirety by TOKYOPOP in North America, so if you want to look into it and decide if this is a flick you'd like to see, that's probably the best outlet. I know I'm gonna go out and buy it, because it sounds pretty cool.

I can't wait enough for this. A theatrical anime is a real treat , and suits the comic's pacing well. Definitely something to look forward to.

Cover-art looks pretty swank. I didn't know this was released by TOKYOPOP. I may give this a look, since it was completely released.
