PARASYTE -- What if it Were More Like the Manga?

Wonder no more! There's a video!

You'd expect visual sensibilities to change a smidge over 20 odd years, no? Like JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE, PARASYTE THE MAXIM is a contemporary anime based on manga that's over a couple decades old, now. However, while Studio David stayed pretty true to Araki's designs when adapting JOJO'S, Madhouse took a bit of creative license with the cast of PARASYTE.

One could only wonder how the show might look if they stayed truer...

Actually, none of us have to wonder. A more proactive fan went ahead and redid the shows intro, replacing the updated character designs with the originals. The effect is... marginally different, to be honest, but otaku are nothing if not detail-concerned.

Some of you have suggested that the show might actually be suffering a little from staying too close to the source material; that the high school setting might've seemed fresh in the 80's, but it's now a bit generic in a field where SO many other shows are set there. Myself, I'd prefer they take more creative license, too. The fact that Shinichi continues to attend school like nothing's changed (despite the numerous on-campus battles that've happened) suggests a story crew who isn't scrutinizing the original plot as much as they should. Can we see some fan do that re-edit, please?

I would say the difference is pretty noticeable, And I actually like the new look a lot better,

hahaha.... how did you even find this haha.. people got time man... but i appreciate it (thumbs up vid on yt)

I've said this many times before but one thing that really bugs me about the anime / manga industry is how they don't play enough with their universes / franchises as the Americans do with the DC / Marvel offerings - i mean DBZ is really played out but they could still do some really awesome things with the universe if they created something completely parallel and fresh and NOT FORCE-FEED MORE THINGS IN THE SAME TIMELINE.... grrr

Right now we are mostly getting more Reboots and more faithful adaptations from source manga for anime but i would also like to see some interesting alterations to the existing story... i mean the manga is there for the source fiends - so doing something different would give everybody something to look forward to... and i know alot of people cling to this whole idea that "original is best" and "messing with the source = instant crap / heresy" but honestly that is not the case... so instead what we end up with in the anime industry is just countless cloning with stories that are almost identical but not quite the same thing... very obvious clones like the MANY evangelion-esqe shows but.....

I'd like to think it's all down to legalities with copyright and such but honestly it's SO rare to see alternative universes by the same mangaka / studio (FMA does not count btw as they just ran out of source chapters at the time)... i just believe it's a cultural thing.. which is imo a seriously missed opportunity in terms of creativity

anyhow... i'm starting to ramble yet again.... in a nutshell, i agree with ya Tom once again but generally i'm so jaded and don't expect change i just accept what i get and enjoy the few surprises that are tossed out at random

and thats why i come here :) so you guys can point out those hidden gems and i don't have to ramble about how anime is slacking nowadayz :P

It would look dated. When I see those manga images, I basically know what era the book was drawn in.

Dig Deeper into Parasyte -the maxim-

An normal high-schooler ends up with a parasite named "Migi" on his right arm and it ends up being friends with his host instead of eating him like most other parasites. They end up in a crossfire from the war between humans and parasites, however.
