Ota09: FUNimation Liveblog

FUNimaiton has some new announcements, I hear....

I've heard FUNimation has some good news, so stay tuned for it!

This is the usual stuff first-- anime on YouTube, PSN, XBL, Hulu, there's a blog, there's a twitter, the upcoming Sho-Dojo.com, etc. etc.

Now we're moving into the usual release info, such as for Kaze no Stigma, the FMA Premium OVA Collection (I just volunteered to be bribed to pick up copies at San Diego, where we can get early copies)....

I think most of this info was in the Expo presentation, but Big Wind-Up part I comes out August 18th (13 episodes)...same day for Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino (complete series), and Mushishi live-action flick on August 25th.

If you preorder Kenichi you get a Miyu body pillow! Iiiiinteresting. Keroro Gunsou, aka Sgt. Frog, season one part I on September 22nd (13 episodes).  Nabari no Ou part I also on September 22nd, also 13 episodes...amazingly consistent on that. Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, of course...Adam Sheehan, our Master of Ceremonies, notes that they do NOT have the license to 2.0 yet, they just want it.

Covering the Expo announcements-- Sands of Destruction, Sengoku Basara, the Slayers cast, Dragonball season one...plus Case Closed, announced yesterday.

New Announcements

Here we go! A new live-action Korean film thta's "unique." Daytime Drinking, coming out April 2010. A remake-- Casshern Sins! Coming out in 2010. <3<3<3

And here's one that JUST got finalized yesterday: Eden of the East. FUCK YES. Pardon my french. <3<3<3 That'll be out in 2010 as well.

But wait, there's one more, Dragon Ball...Dragon Ball...but not the thing we're thinking of. Surprise! It's Dragon Box Z, which is apparently a big deal, and a Japan-only release that FUNimation literally thought they'd never get. Each box is 40 uncut remastered episodes and has the opening and closing credits and original episode previews. Iiiiinteresting. The first box will be out this fall. They shrunk it down to seven boxes, but other than that, no changes. Box art is the same, all the restoration-- done frame by frame --is there. It also comes with an 80-page hardcover collector's booklet with each box, and this is really aimed at hardcore fans, so it goes default to Japanese audio (but it does have dubs). And it's 4:3 ratio.

We'll have a short Q&A, but I'm only going to post real (or really interesting) responses.

No, they don't have Sailor Moon, yes, they want it, but no, it's jsut not available at the moment.

This isn't 100% confirmed, but Adam *thinks* that the first Dragon Ball movie will be bundled with one of the Dragon Ball box sets. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood dub announcements miiiiight come in September, ish, maybe. One Piece streaming isn't dead, they still have the rights, news soon.

Don't know yet about the Eden of the East movie, because it was just signed, but it MIGHT be part of the contract, he's just not sure yet.  Soul Eater's dub cast will probably be late August/early September, with more info about the release in general then too.

Phantom is fully licensed, a dub is coming, more info on it in the near future (sometime next year for release?).

The end!

Eh....I could care less about Eden of the East or Casshern Sins
scottfryeon July 18, 2009 at 8:09 a.m.
But I will say that I probably might give it a another chance if they put it on the video site.  (as long as its subbed)

@scottfrye: Oh, I bet you'll see at least a coule of try-out episodes, if not the full series (which are always a possibility now, of course). I would definitely recommend looking at either.

That means Manga Ent will probably (hopefully) pick up Eden here.
I shall buy Eden if it's released.
