He's baaaaaack!
- A few more top tens before 2008 ended: David Welsh's top ten anticipated titles of 2009, and Publisher's Weekly's top ten of 2008-- complete with some interesting information on VIZ's slow and steady push for josei manga.
- USA Today's booklist finally includes another manga, for the final week of 2008: Naruto volume 33, officially released on January 1, has hit a respectable #104. Maybe he can be boosted into the top 100 for next week?
- Meanwhile Matt Blind has his teaser for the week ending January 4, which interestingly has Naruto 31, 32, and 33 as #s 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Bleach 25 and Fruits Basket #21 round out the top 5.
Japan
- No changes in the top three films over the weekend in Japan (WallE, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and K-20). Major managed to push back up to #4 from its #5 spot last week; the Tamagotchi film drops from #8 to #9 and Bleach Fade to Black holds firm at #10.
- The Oricon charts haven't updated yet, but Alafista has Oricon's top-selling manga of 2008: One Piece, Nodame Cantabile, and Nana make the top three. Interesting that two more female-oriented series outsell shounen titles like Naruto (#4) and Bleach (#6). There are also several titles that you may not have heard of yet-- the recently-anime'd Kuroshitsuji, the recently drama'd Bloody Monday, the soon-to-be-drama'd Kimi ni Todoke, and awesomely enough, Saint Onii-san-- a manga about Jesus and Buddha living as roommates in modern Japan.
