Rumors have been flooding the internet and One Piece communities all over -- but with the release of this week's issue of Shonen Jump No. 38 in Japan -- It's no rumor! It's been confirmed as fact, and this could have an effect on the series forever. After the release of One Piece Ch. 597 this week, One Piece and the series creator/artist Eiichiro Oda is going on a four week break. NoOne Piece chapters are to be expected until Shonen Jump No. 43. For a series that has been on a near nonstop run for thirteen years. It's a well deserved break.
It isn't just this gap in the release schedule that makes this so big. What is to be expected either in Ch. 598 or very soon is a TWO YEAR time gap in story. Big for any tale, but about par for the course of the Shonen line. I've just been wondering what this gap could mean in the future. AfterDragon Ball had a time gap, it had another one after the World's Martial-Arts Tournament, and the series became Dragon Ball Z. Though, the Naruto manga kept the series name after it's time skip. The anime became known as Naruto Shippuden. Currently, theOne Piece manga is at 59 volumes, and the crew hasn't even reached the second half of the Grand Line called the New World. When Luffy and the crew returns, could the series be renamed into something different? Even if the manga doesn't change names. When the anime reaches this point, could it become "One Piece:New World"?

theres just one problem i can't quite put my finger on... what was it? oh yeah!
I DON'T GET TO READ ANY F^%*ING NEW ONE PIECE FOR A MONTH, DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this will be an adjustment for all
also, yes, the anime will be One Piece: New World, it just makes sense
It was due. Series that last as long as One Piece generally need time skips to advance characters because having the ENTIRE story take place over a year or so doesn't always make sense.
This is a really good plan for people (ME) who haven't read/watched One Piece (ME) and really wants to (ME)
I have two years to catch up!
Oda definitely deserves a break though. I'm verrrryyyy curious to see what's going to happen after the time skip.
I certainly hope that there is a time skip and the crew shows up with more (and hopefully more appealing) crewmates and the original crew is much stronger than before. As things stand now, they are not that impressive compared to the other characters.
Dragon Ball the manga did become Dragon Ball Z after Goku won the World's Martial Arts Tournament. He came back with a kid.
The idea of it being called One Piece New World is just a theory of mine. It just seems to make sense. In Japan it would probably be called "One Piece: Shin Sekai".
@sora_thekey:
I'm unsure if you are joking, but that two year gap isn't for the manga. It's in the story. Two years are going to pass for the characters. Only a month for readers. Much in the same way Naruto had a two year time skip.
You have a month to catch up with the manga.
I like what Oda is doing, imagine how exited the crew are gonna feel when they finally meet. Were gonna be the exact same. It's gonna be intresting to see all the major changes in the world.
It'll be easy once you become addicted :p
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I cant wait four week
Also I think its awesome that One Piece Strong World is Canon. Also When I read that One piece Strong World would be be Luffy's last adventure as a 17-year old. It made me sad thinking there wouldn't be any more movies but find out they are taking a taking a break and going 2 years into the future it makes me happier.
