Luffy is torn between two goals on Dressrosa. He must either rescue Trafalgar from Doflamingo's clutches, or he has to save Ace'sFlame-Flame Fruit from those who would abuse its incredible power for personal gain. In choosing one, he must abandon the other. Luckily for Luffy, someone has arrived that he trusts like a brother to aid him.
It's a funny enough thing, but the outcome of this chapter was hinted at over a year ago, on the splash page cover of Ch. 668. It's just that few ever realized it at the time. Not just because it was subtle, but more due to a publishing error. When this chapter was originally printed in WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP, the advertising that was added later covered up the very important detail of the three sake cups at Ace's grave. Most never even knew about this change until the original art was displayed at the One Piece Ten art exhibit -- or until the release of Volume 68.
Many long time readers knew that this would be coming at some point. I'm more shocked that Oda chose the Dressrosa Arc to drop the Sabo Bomb on everyone. For as exciting as such a revelation has been, the appearance I was even more surprised about was the return of Koala. Maybe it's because I was still reeling from some shell shock, but it took me a few seconds to remember where I knew that name from. It's the little slave girl that was rescued by the Sun Pirates. She's all grown up and ready to kick some ass.
The only real negative I'm getting out of this is that it's splitting apart my loyalties of who I want to claim the Flame-Flame Fruit. I initially wanted Rebecca to get it in the end, but Sabo taking on the role of "Lucy" definitely complicates the issue. I'm not sure which outcome would be better.
Of the three Shonen Jump Trilogy reviews I was to write this week, this is the one I was most looking forward to doing. This chapter is a collection of absolute ONE PIECE awesomeness with all its moments and reveals. Far too much to even go into in this write up. Nearly every page has something noteworthy about it.
Just look at all the forces that have been arriving on this island, and this is the first time we've ever seen the Revolutionary Army take part in the current story line. Dressrosa is easily enough the arc to be reading now.
