Not Quite a Mythical Pony: World-Wide Simulbroadcast for Gundam Unicorn

Gundam goes world-wide this time around.

Okay, I may be in Las Vegas, but this is way more important than throwing down another bet at the roulette table (yes, I still play roulette, even if my mother keeps trying to drag me off to craps).

Sunrise has announced that they want to do a simultaneous release of Gundam Unicorn worldwide. It's Gundam, after all, and they can do that. Unfortunately there have been no specific plans revealed on the project; we still don't even know for sure if it's a TV series or a movie or an OVA or what.

So, let the speculation begin! Will Sunrise go through Crunchyroll, so far the king of the English-language simulcast? Or will Bandai Entertainment, who (I believe) has handled every North American Gundam release to date, be involved-- or perhaps both? I've got an e-mail out to BEI to see if they know and/or can divulge any further information.

But in the meantime, feel to make up your own version of how things will be released in the comments.

As for me, I can see it going either way or both, but it will definitely depend on the release format. If Gundam Unicorn is an anime movie, BEI has managed to get some movies into theaters for short-engagement events, so it seems possible that Sunrise would want to go that route. On the other hand, if it's a TV series, Crunchyroll really has that process down at this point, and provides a pretty solid audience and (so it seems) payoff. If it's an OVA, though, and we're talking a DVD release in Japan? Obviously Bandai has more experience with DVDs, but the cost of a digital Crunchyroll release is probably smaller, so I'd say that one's a toss-up.

As always, speculation on my part-- now share yours!

EDIT: Heard back from Bandai, a simple "no comment."

Roulette is better anyway Gia. At least you can easily calculate your odds and payoffs without having to sit down with a calculator.

As for this news, silly Gia, when they say world-wide simulbroadcast, that can only mean that they already have it translated into every language of every (top secret) Bandai military base across the Earth sphere, which means that come this unspecified date in Winter of this year, Minovsky particles will be broadcast en masse throughout the atmosphere, blocking every other show with the exception of the Gundam Unicorn since it will be broadcast via direct laser communications from the space colonies.

Honestly though I think Bandai would just do a youtube stream like they did with 00 and Code Geass... it worked before, so why not again.

... you know, I lost interest in the Gundam series LONG ago, like, after the first, original, and only good one, in my opinion.

But I just have to come back and say, that Gundam... looks really... oh, what's the word... oh yes, that's right... "dumb".

Have we really run out of ideas? Unicorn? :/

I think that Gundam looks awesome. To each their own, I guess.

@nweasel: I really have to question anyone who says they 'saw the original' and thought it was the only good one, considering the 3 movie adaptation of the original series is almost universally considered to be better than the original series it was based off of, and that without Zeta, Gundam wouldn't have taken off much at all.

Also, I'm assuming you haven't seen it's other mode have you...

@Sigue: I'm with you. This Gundam actually LOOKS like a prototype to me, especially by comparison to past models. That cloud-filled shot doesn't do it much justice...

I love the unicorn design, as is even more than its destroy mode where it has the traditional gundam appearance. Unique Gundam designs are awesome, such as the Zeta, Ez8, Turn-A and Blue Destiny 1.
