Nickelodeon Fans Still <3 Pokemon

Nickelodeon Magazine has announced its Comics Award winners, and the winner of the best manga series was Best of Pokemon Adventures. The cute fuzzies beat out big names like Naruto and Fruits Basket, as well as Kingdom Hearts II and the slightly-different-target-market-no-matter-what-4Kids-said One Piece.

The only other manga-related nominations were Kakashi for best hair in comics, who lost to Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes (which I can only agree with), and the Warriors global manga for favorite fantasy graphic novel, who lost out to Jeff Smith's long-running Bone.

This was Nickelodeon Magazine's first-ever comics awards, but I don't think that there'll be a lot of room for manga in it aside from the manga category-- not if they're always going to run up against such classic long-running series as Calvin and Hobbes (which hasn't even had new content in years), Bone, Archie, etc. Still, it'll be interesting to see what a slightly younger demographic feels about manga. I don't think Pokemon has ever been shown on Nickelodeon here in the UK, it's always been on the Cartoon Network channels as far as I know. Weird.

Newten: Well, this is based on comics, not cartoons, but Nickelodeon clearly decided it would be a better idea not to limit the nominees to only Nickelodeon-published materials :)

Dig Deeper into Pokémon Adventures

Pokémon Adventures is a manga based on the popular video game series Pokémon, and is divided into several parts (called Chapters), each one taking place over several rounds (referred to as "Adventures" in Viz Media's 2009 second edition). Each part is based on a different series of the Pokémon games.
