News Alert: Girls Are In Love With Mecha Too!

There is still hope for me yet!

Just when I thought it was impossible for me, a mecha lover, to find a girlfriend, new news straight out of Japan has informed me of otherwise. According to What Japan Thinks, girls are (almost) equally in love with mecha as us manly men. This survey was issued to 600 members of the Club BBQ free email forwarding service; so I’m assuming most of these people are not otaku (not that otakus don’t like BBQ.) In fact, out of everyone surveyed, only 8.3% of those who participated could be considered an Otaku.

In this survey, 5.3% of girls 20 years or older watch mecha shows, while only 2.5% of boys in that age group do. So even if it’s marginal, it appears as if girls really do like watching giant robots rip each other apart. But most girls don’t watch it for the mecha themselves, but for the story, the world view, and the characters other than the mecha; but at least they are watching the shows, so that is all that counts.

This survey is not the end all, be all guide to the minds of Japanese girls, I believe a bigger sample is needed for that. Nevertheless, girls do like mecha, and that gives me hope for the future.

Considering the fact that there were more girls than guys that liked Kamen Rider though as well, I think it has more to do with the pretty boys (or perhaps burly men?) in these shows than the mechs.

Why would being a mecha lover make it harder to get a girl.  Silly internet.

In any case, the beauty of, say, Jehuty transcends time, space, and gender.

You can eventually find a mech-loving girl, Len. They do exist.
