Anime/Manga News, Stories and Updates
For those of our readers in the United Kingdom, my extreme condolences to you. And for those in the US, Canada, and anywhere else? Let's make sure this kind of thing never happens to us, okay?

Apparently new legislation in the UK will ban “extreme pornography,” defined as “extreme images” produced only for the purposes of sexual arousal. Comic book shops are concerned that if the law is interpreted harshly, comics as relatively benign as Batman and Punisher could be in trouble-- to say nothing of “some forms of manga.”

No kidding. And we in the US complain about not being able to get Kodomo no Jikan; at least we can still get our localized hentai manga/anime/games...

Its not much of a coincidence that this happened.

Batman and Punisher are very tame compared to Bible Black, Angel of Darkness, and other hentai anime, games, and mangas.  I don't complain much because I am grateful and a bit humble.  I do realized that other fans cannot purchase mangas and anime in their respected countries especially yaoi and het-hentai due to laws similar to the new UK legislation.  Its sad to see UK being one of those countries.

It's sad how censorship seems to be spreading like fire...

Wow. You'd think with the state of the global economy, governments wouldn't be trying to kill off more industries.
NovidAnon on Jan. 29, 2009
You know it has started a while back has it? Europe as a whole is a powder keg waiting to explode and the reason why they are starting this now is because they want to nip any sort of justified anger by using the children argument (another form of Justified anger) to send those deemed a danger to the new UK life... come on folks - they dont care about you. They never did. All they want is good little robots that play wii after they work 80-90 hours a day to fill the coffers of those who are above the law.
Only failed states move to more Fascist ways. And after they go there, they never recover. We have no future as shown in Greece so why be shocked when everybody is revolting against a system that really wants them dead? We in the west have been dumb down to the form of breeding, fat, wannabe intellectual psychotic, psychological racists controlled easily by the whim of a few motherfuckers who are psychopaths. Not a damn thing will change through man, only nature will end these crises so why worry?

Is this the new scapegoat?

i remember them banning novels, music and video games. I wonder what is next, the Bible?
NovidAnon on Jan. 29, 2009
They Only edit Music and Movies - They have and don't need to ban novels because there boys in the publishing world got a lockdown on what makes a successful book, and the video game thing thats is a whole other matter that I will state that its almost conspiratorial in its scope - and would soon happen in the states if we don't get people in the ECA and start going through the legal and media waves stating that choice is our right, our only right and not change or hope or all this hootenanny.
Oh they already started on the Blble, and they started on the Koran and the Talmud/Torah (in lesser forms on the latter) We live in a age where everybody was told the truth and they ran away to Miss Cyrus, the Neet lifestyle with all it portends, and the wii - and even this Society asked there leaders, and judges's to destroy anyone, ANYONE that cramps there little narristic psychotically racist world view of mega malls, $20,000 commodes, and protecting their little rascals they call "children" from those "Demonic" teenagers and there "Demonic" cartoons and there "Demonic" life styles...

But like I said before - nobody wins out in the end...so why worry?
Little_Sparrow on Jan. 29, 2009
This is not new news to us, It has been going back and forth over the last two years, The idea is to break down sexual acts of violnace, which is stupid cause it is not the images that spur people on its their own will, Prehpas my goverment should pay more attention to providing help then pushing for change that will cost well into the hundred thousands , Why not put that money to real use.....
ramos501 on Jan. 29, 2009
right you are gia all we can do is watch or does anyone know how to put up like those viruses which popup saying 999,999th visitor stuff or just put popoups all over the place speaking our minds off you know!! cause this aint fair eg we over here in zambia have a saying: a bad leader is one that treats his people like rock climbers if  the top climber makes a mistake and falls the others must pay the price of his wait being a burden !

F*** Censorship and political correctness!!!

This whole crap is getting out of hand. If a bill like that ever came to congress trying to pull a stunt like that, you can count on me being in the picket line outside protesting this BS...
Bertmasta on Jan. 29, 2009
I have read about this and to what is regarded as extreme, is not normal pornogrphy it is such things as beastiality, necrphilia and the like, stuff in my opinion that should be banned.
gia on Jan. 29, 2009
Bertmasta: Those real-life acts should be (and probably are) banned, but why should a hand-drawn depiction of them be illegal?

I don't like looking at any of them. Or thinking about any of them. But why should I care if someone else DOES like looking at them, as long as they aren't DOING them? In fact, access to drawings, cartoons, CG movies, etc. might give them an outlet so that they DON'T go around performing said acts.
Bertmasta on Jan. 29, 2009
Gia: i cant find specifically anywhere, a place where its stated that hand-drawn depictions are, of those actions they probably are, however these cases will be rare and the main focus will be on images of real-life acts. Believe me this focus is not on putting a stop to fetish manga and the like, it is stopping sites that are specific to such things as nercrophilia.
I dont believe the british government even had hand-drawn depictions in mind when they passed the law. however i may be wrong :)
Bertmasta on Jan. 29, 2009
main points i could find
portrays any of the following:
  • (a) an act which threatens a person’s life,
  • (b) an act which results, or is likely to result, in serious injury to a person’s anus, breasts or genitals,
  • (c) an act which involves or appears to involve sexual interference with a human corpse,
  • (d) a person performing or appearing to perform an act of intercourse or oral sex with an animal (whether dead or alive),

and a reasonable person looking at the image would think that any such person or animal was real. <-------- here is something i would like to point out :D

gia on Jan. 29, 2009
Hmm...as long as it's actually NOT rela, I don't see why real-looking would get people in trouble.

The problem with images of sex and violence is usually when the acts themselves are illegal-- it's not the IMAGES that are the problem, it's the act. That's why child pornograhy is illegal...not because seeing such things is (or should be) a crime, but because the creation and acquisition of the materials supports the molestation of children.

So, theoretically, shouldn't it only matter that the image *is* real, rather than *looks* real?
Nerx on Jan. 30, 2009
those people can eat a **** and choke on it!
Suzu on Feb. 1, 2009
You all missed this:

(5) So, for example, where—

(a) an image forms an integral part of a narrative constituted by a series of images, and

(b) having regard to those images as a whole, they are not of such a nature that they must reasonably be assumed to have been produced solely or principally for the purpose of sexual arousal,

the image may, by virtue of being part of that narrative, be found not to be pornographic, even though it might have been found to be pornographic if taken by itself.

If its part of the story, that doesn't make it necesarily illegal.
