New Robot That Displays Human Emotion is Here

Finally! A robot that will cry when I beat it.

Japanese scientists have done it again, this time developing a humanoid robot that can express human emotions. Now don’t get it wrong, it doesn’t feel these emotions, but just expresses them using body language. This robot can express seven different emotions such as delight, surprise, sadness and dislike; however, disgust, and you are a very creepy man expression are unknown at this time, but will quickly be learned once the robot meets me.

Not only does it smile and act surprised, but it can also walk and perform physical tasks, like beating up homeless people for example. It was developed by researchers at Waseda’s Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering. The reason why they created it with these faux emotions is because it will make interactions with the robot easier, especially when it stands in the shower with you. Sign me up, I always wanted a robot butler, no robot maid.

Yes… something like this.

I don't get the fuss. Like the guy says at the end of the video-- it can't actually interact emotionally. It's essentially nothing more exciting than an animatronic puppet that can be controlled to mimic emotion. Or a Jim Henson puppet, but with robot arms inside of it instead of a person. It can't actually RESPOND with emotion.

Therein would lie a breakthrough.

Though I kind of thought its constipated face was kind of funny. That's what the first face was supposed to be, right?

I agree, I don't see the big deal especially since we've had robots that could display facial emotions at least for a long time now.

But this is great...we're one step towards creating a Gundam that can act more emo than it's pilot... as if the Destiny Gundam with it's crying blood eyes wasn't enough...
