New PS3 Gundam Game is Amazing

If you read/watch only one Gundam thing today, make it this.

Happy gundam laden news day! Anyone who has had the pleasure of playing Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs Gundam is a lucky jerk. Quite possible the coolest, action packed gundam based arcade game ever, GvG put the "pew" into "pew pew." The game was recently ported to the PSP, which is where I got my greedy little hands on it... but there's more.

Called Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next (great title), the sequel is rocking the arcades, and is packed to the brim with more gundam goodness. What makes today amazing is that the PS3 will soon be getting port of this game. As we know, getting an import game is considerably cheaper than getting a ticket to Japan, so you can bet this'll be on my list for holiday shopping.

That said, check out this gameplay footage and start saving your loose change, because... wow.

how is it different from any other gundam game? the only thing i can see is the graphics and that's because it's ps2 vs ps3

@rein: Well, from personal experience the game has more in common with powerstone or dissidia than traditional gundam games. It's very "pew pew" arcade-like fun, as it was designed for up to four players doing two on two grudge matches. Its been my experience that most Gundam games we got state side weren't so much on that aspect, or they were a 2d fighter.

Given the huge, huge, huge cast, they still manage to incorporate ambiances that seem fun or similar to the original series. Like, each gundam is weighted in units between 1-3. When you "die" it subtracts that value from your total of shared units between you and your partner.

This way, you can make the wing zero a freak-y hoss unit at 3 cost (more health, faster, etc.) while Char's Zaku is a 1 cost. So while at a flat out disadvanatge, the Zaku can die 3 times for every once that the Wing Zero bites it. Plus series specific special moves and transforable crafts.

There have been a few pew pew gundam games before, but they rarely did anything on this level of polish, or gave you any reason you'd actually want to choose an inferior (yet fun suit, like the Tallgesse) over "the good suit."

Still notinerested, hell i'm so confidente that this game will be bad, if it is in fact good (at least as good as Mech Assult) then i actually start buying my anime, i also will start watching gundam

@John_Martone: You basically just described the incredibly hard to find but fun Gundam:Encounters in Space game. Unfortunately, as the title would imply, it didn't have any terrestrial combat, so it wasn't quite as varied as it could have been, plus it was only UC and no alternate universes.

This looks fun. I'll be sure to import it after I get Operation Troy (EVENTUALLY...)

mmm, i am not that sure, i mean in my opinion this game is better than mech assault, but yes i like gundam, so yeah

I looked for many a visit to gamestop, but by the time I felt the need to buy it (friend had a copy,) it was too late...

@John_Martone: Yeah, it took me a VERY long time to find, but it was worth it. Probably the best US released Gundam game thus far, albeit incredibly difficult. They definitely did NOT nerf the difficulty on some of the missions.

Then the game better have some Papa Roach and Korn in it (yes i can be petty) but now that i said that i guess i will have to get the game to see what i think of it
