Another new episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya aired today-- as in, a NEW new episode, Endless Eight for those of you familiar with the way the novels go –and with it, we got ourselves a new opening theme song. The song, sung by Haruhi's seiyuu Aya Hirano, is called “Super Driver.”

The video has a very fun, pop-y aesthetic with a lot of comic book screen tone style to it. But is it as catchy as Bouken Desho Desho (below)?

What do you guys think? Will Super Driver continue to be a hit once the novelty wears off? Perhaps more importantly, will anyone make parodies of it with other series' characters?

(Via Random Curiosity.) Oh, and keep an eye out on the site; when Kadokawa posts the new episode on YouTube, assuming it's embeddable like the last one, I'll post it for your consumption.

I was wondering when the next new episode was coming out... I'm too lazy to dig around for wherever the release schedule is...

I absolutely love the comic book look of the new opening!
Song wise, I think I'll have to get used to it more before choosing this one over Bouken Desho Desho.

I think the new OP is very catchy and I like it a lot!  I think there will be parodies made of it with other series's characters...

I don't know if it's quite as catchy, but it's decent. I really like the visuals.

@Niko: Yeah, this...it's not as catchy a tune but the video is pretty awesome. And the star bursts remind me of that Skittles AMV, the one you posted yesterday, gia.

I like the new intro

i love it, the new op and ed have better visuals imo, the sign scene from the op and the scene where its flashing through them running from the ed are amazing
plus they feel more attached to the story of the show, especially tomare, i liked hare hare yukai, but it had nothing to do with the show aside that the characters were in it

@lanaswift: Yeah, it definitely does have a very AMV feel to it... personally I'm not sure if I like it so much, but it seems ok.

BUT WHAT IS UP WITH THE ANNOYING FRAME JUMPING?!

Seriously, the new ending drove me nuts too with the whole clamation-like frame skipping... the jumps are just too jarring and not very comfortable on the eyes...

@HeeroYuy: i think the flashing is pretty awesome, it adds the appearance of motion but its really like 3-4 different frame for each character, i just think its a simple way to add a lot

@hipalbatross: It's a bit different, so I'll give them points for that, but it bugs the crap out of my eyes since it makes the whole composition seem like it's trying to run Crysis on a crappy graphics card. The sudden bang! frame! frame! just makes it seem jarring and conflicts with comparaitvely smooth music.

Though, I'm probably just overanalyzing it...

@HeeroYuy: its all just a matter of preference, like i think that the flashing works with the music, it starts like right after a tempo change so i think the visual change works well and the syncing is nice
i know plenty of people who hate the flashing, especially in amvs (which the new op and ed do feel like), but its never bothered me

It's totally fine, but i prefer bouken.

The song itself isn't as catchy, but I like the style of the new OP better. That being said, I think I enjoyed the first OP more. I'm not a big fan of showing the characters and having their names pop up. Like, really not a fan.

i like it more than the  original.

@Sigue: I'm with you Sigue. It just seems kind of tacky, and the video itself is like the typical AMV makers out there who don't have a whole lot of ideas so they try to cover it up by using 30 different special effects that really only make it look pretty.

@Sigue: Kinda screams "EARLY '90S SITCOM!"
