Transformers has brought giant robots to the eyes and the minds of those westerners that are not already addicted to it. After a hit we all want more, and filmmakers everywhere are starting to understand this. This is where LightStage comes in. They are a special effects house that worked on such films as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and AVATAR. Now they set their eyes on Gaiking, and other robots from the Shogun Warriors toy line that was launched back in the seventies. Directing this film is Matthew Gratzner, who has quite the resume in the special effects industry.
This is not the best part, according to Ain’t it Cool News, and I quote:
We are building the robots life size. Matt is one of the last great practical effects guys in the business who can pull this off. We will bring you to the set and give you first shot at seeing them. If you want, we can have you put out those first images of what the finished versions look like. The teaser we have now is CG for the robot. It is to give the fans a taste of the design we are going with, but it is not a true reveal given what we are going to be doing when we build the thing. The real deal is going to be mind blowing of course.
That’s amazing! But that’s not the only surprise, for they plan on using other robots from the Shogun Warriors toy line in the future; which means they will be making use of such robots as Mazinger Z, Daimos, Voltus V, Raideen, and many more. Though I doubt they will be ripping the stories from these different franchises directly from the anime, but making new ones. The film will be released sometime in 2012, and hopefully not enter postproduction hell.
I am so excited for this, I have always dreamed of having a Super Robot Wars movie of some kind; and even if other robots do not show up in this film, it is going to happen eventually. *cries*

PS: vid 1 Grendizer is a still to shiny
You heard it here first! hehehe... Just pokin' fun...
I've been playing Heavy Rain, and this reminded me of a moment in that game. A character hands a pill to another character and says, "It's a painkiller, it'll help reduce the pain."
the anime looks realy stuped, but the topic vid at the top look ASOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tom of Toonami fame in the 21 century in that first trailer.
