New Anime Announcement Roundup: Little Sisters and Maid Cafes

Are you ready for what Japan's got up it sleeves?

Hey folks, it's time once again to talk about a few new  anime project-- aside from the upcoming new Gainax project we already talked about, of course. Let's see what's coming up!

Hiyokoi

A young woman named Hiyori Nishiyama who's been stuck in the hospital for a year-- missing school in the process --finally goes back, small and shy. The series deals with her attempts to make new friends, particularly with a rather tall young man. There will be a screening of the project at an event for Ribon, the anthology that serializes the manga, although it's unclear if the anime will extend beyond that. (Via Comic Natalie

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai

That title translates to "My Little Sister Can't Be This  Cute," although whether that gets you interested or puts you off I couldn't tell you. Based on the light novel series that's already being made into a manga, the series revolves around a 17-year-old high school guy named Kyousuke Kousaka who has a bad relationship with his little sister Kirino, who is 14. Then one day he discovers that his kid sister has been keeping "little sister"-themed porno games in her magical girl DVD cases...I'm not at all surprised at this one getting an anime adaptation; I keep hearing about it on Japanese sites and it seems pretty popular.  (Via Moon Phase)

Seikon no Qwaser the Movie

You've probably heard me talk about the breast-feeding anime-- for such is what it is, a supernatural anime with a somewhat religious bent, in which beings with special powers called Qwasers get energy for those powers via boob-sukcing --but now word on the streets is that there will be an anime film released based on the series. Yeahhh. (Via ANN)

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru

I wonder if a manga licensor would be tempted to title this "As the World Turns"? The title actually translates roughly to "Even So the Town is Turning," and it revolves around a klutzy maid cafe employee named Arashiyama. The cafe is fairly unsuccessful, until Arashiyama's friend Tatsuno and crush Sanada decide to work there and improve things. This one has been greenlit for a TV anime, and it sounds pretty cute. The seinen manga by Ishiguro Masakazu runs in Young King Ours, the same anthology that hosts Excel Saga, Trigun Maximum, and others. (Via Moetron)

And that's the latest collection of new anime works that have been announced in Japan! As always, let me know which ones you're interested in the comments-- so I know which ones are important to cover!

Nothing too interesting but a Seikon no Qwaser the movie, really!?
giaon May 3, 2010 at 9:34 a.m.
@metalsnakezero: Yeah...should be interesting to see how far they can go. =P
Sigueon May 3, 2010 at 10:55 a.m.
Hiyokoi and Soredemo seem like they could be fun. Ore no Imouto looks like it will probably end up being kind of stupid, and Seikon no Qwaser is Seikon no Qwaser.

Nothing anyone hasn't seen before. Oh Anime, how sad you've become.

2 things, why is Seikon no  Qwaser still going on and why is it getting a movie?
DocHauson May 3, 2010 at 2:59 p.m.
The ANN link says that "The issue had a feature about Qwasar's key animation drawings and an interview with Zegapain's staff, but no announcement of a film for either franchise."

Hiyoki kinda interests me because the picture makes me think of Hayate no Gotoku.

I still need to get caught up with my backlist of anime T_T but that's what summer vacation is for.

Huh... nothing too out there... nothing that looks particularly new... but Hiyokoi, Ore no Inouto ga konna ni kawaii wake ga Nai and Sore demo Machi wa Mawatteiru seem like something I would watch so...
I might check them out!

Hhhhh...
Every time I see a new anime list I get excited--and then find out that one one is attempting to be original. I think it's unfortunate that series like House of Five Leaves find it hard to attract viewers, while series like Kiss x Kiss live on. I'm tired of maid-themes, incest themes, pure fan-service, and the mis-matched overly stereotypical highschool relationship series. Maybe I've "out-grown" the medium? I'd hate for that to be true, but It's tough to find a truly interesting series anymore.

I've read a couple chapters of Ore no Imouto in the past. The whole series feels like a gigantic troll.  There's constant implications (especially in the first few chapters before we learn the whole truth about the little sister's secret) that the brother and sister are into each other, but in actuality there's NO incestuous feelings whatsoever.  Such an odd series.

Seikon no Qwaser the movie , it looks interesting.

Hiyokoi might have something going for it but the rest just scream out about how they are more of the same things that is making anime bad these days.

Cause Seikon No Quaser has a decent story line when you get past the fanservice.
And I like the fanservice. XD

Dig Deeper into Hiyokoi

An anime adaptation of the romantic comedy manga. It is unclear if the anime will extend beyond its single screening at an event for manga anthology Ribon.
