All the predictions of the masses have come to pass.

The closing of the greatest war in the history of the Shinobi World is thwarted as Madara Uchiha has one more card to play.

The Good

Have a lil' help from my Biju friends.

Initially, I found the shadow looming over the panels distracting. It didn't make any sense why so much of this chapter was bathed in a gloom. My opinion on this murky overcast eventually changed when I realized it represented Obito's darkness and shift to the light. I'm not a fan of the sentiment, but I enjoy the intentions behind the artist's direction.

The Bad

You can now be killed again. How is this an improvement?
You can now be killed again. How is this an improvement?

For the past few months has I've been writing reviews on this arc, you, the audience, have been predicting that Obito would just end up using the Rinne Rebirth technique and pull a Nagato to undo all the death and drama of the past few years. I scoffed at the very idea internally. I thought it was an appropriate finale for Pain, but never imagined that Kishimoto would have become so lazy as to repeat himself so blatantly.

Well, you all were "basically" right. Obito's intentions are foiled by Madara, but it doesn't change the fact that he was honestly going to try and bring back the causalities of the war he had created. What is this fixation the author has developed for wanting to redeem everyone before death? Probably the only people who're upset he didn't succeed are a lot of miffed off Neji fangirls.

I guess Kishimoto still needed a villain for this series, and this is hardly the time to be introducing anyone new. Madara just makes for a terrible choice. Sure, he's one of the greatest villains in the history of this world, second only to the Ten-Tails itself; but who is he to Naruto, our lead? Madara wasn't the killer of Naruto's parents, the one who led the Akatsuki, manipulated the world to war, murdered Konan, and so on. This switcheroo is an enormous disappointment, but one I had feared was coming.

Maybe this is a conversation best left until we see where this is heading.

Verdict 2/5

Some really great art design is practically ruined by the plot of the chapter. I can't imagine where Kishimoto is taking the NARUTOseries, but I can certainly say that I don't like the looks of where it's heading. Who knows, maybe I'll end up being completely wrong. Perhaps this is just one major battle to close up this arc. However, where does this story go once all the villains are basically gone?

I haven't read this chapter yet, but, ::sigh:: I was afraid of this.

I don't think Kishimoto is putting in much effort anymore. I might even just rely on summaries of chapters until Naruto ends. This is no longer enjoyable.

Madara is cool, but he was NEVER a villain here. His motivations are practically non-existent in terms of the overall plot. I like seeing Madara more as a force rather than a character.

Judging from Lukero and Foxx's comments, I'm starting to see that. I'm way behind everyone in Naruto manga (where Gaara meets his dad). I'm just reading for fun to bump that discussion thread that Anime Defender and the guys wanted me to make a while ago.

Obito, you don't get to choose your punishment. I really hate that jutsu, it just a cop out

Now it time for Madara to reveal he was really behind everything, then Naruto will get mad and turn into the Sage of the Six path and beat Madara. Then him and Sasuke will fight to see who will become Hokage (the end) I am 90% sure that will happen, hope I'm wrong

You could say I suppose that his fascination with redeeming everyone comes from the fact this is targeted at 11 year olds...and myabe he had a Christian conversion recently? Some ( I would say wrong) christian denominations believe everyone is always redemmable (even Hitler)

Destinyheroknighton Dec. 5, 2013 at 12:31 a.m.

It a common trope in Shonen anime/manga, it more like believing in humanity and the bonds that tie us together. (I think it a good message) I don't see it as just a Christian thing

I didn't know that because you didn't say anything about the Narutobase or Naruto wiki in your first post. You should have reword if you meant that

I thought it was an appropriate finale for Pain

Are you kidding me? I've already gone on saying that was what made me give up on Naruto in the first place and it's even stupider HERE!

Y'know Kishimoto, just because I keep ranting about how American comic book companies should retcon deaths of characters that shouldn't have happened in the first place, doesn't mean I ask that of every death in every story. And your's is no exception. At least I could buy into death being cheap in Dragon Ball because of the titular wish granting macguffin. The whole notion these villains keep pulling resurrection jutsus out of their asses, yeah not buying it. I'm officially calling you a hack now.

I defend my position. Pain reviving the dead was appropriate for his situation. However, you only get to pull that card once. Repeating that with Obito is such a disappointment. Nagato suffered some real tragedy, and I understood where he was coming from and how he was manipulated. Obito's motive is so childish. He loses one girl in his life, and he's ready to wipe out reality by betraying everyone.

I'm not against a villain redemption. I still enjoy the death of Zabuza and Haku. It's one of my favorite moments of the series. Kishimoto has just been abusing that theme far too much recently.
zaldaron Dec. 11, 2013 at 10:43 a.m.

@Destinyheroknight: Ah ok people seemed to be acting like it was surprising so that was why I brought in religion it does seem to fit with the main themes of the series (power of friendship believe it!) and it was the overuse of those themes that did make me stop reading and only follow here but others seemed to be surprised...I'm not really...

Destinyheroknighton Dec. 11, 2013 at 3:43 p.m.

Yeah, I wasn't surprise. I knew he going to pull this when he bring Obito back. Well, it will take a lot to make me stop reading (because I paying for one) and that I'm a Shonen fan (that don't sound right). So it don't bug me that much
