Mysterious Listings in Manga and Anime

VIZ licenses three new manga, and a new anime adaptation is on the way in Japan.

Yes, there are some new licenses and new anime on the way, if Internet listings are anything to go by.

First and foremost are several manga listed on the Simon & Schuster site, which are for VIZ Media releases. The titles are:

Psyren by Iwashiro Toshiaki
A Weekly Shounen Jump title, Psyren revolves around a guy named Ageha Yoshina who picks up a ringing pay phone and for his trouble finds a phone card with the word "Psyren" on it. After a girl at his school goes missing, Ageha tries to use the card to find her and winds up tumbling in the world of Psyren-- a game world full of creatures called Tavoo, where the "players" must fight using PSI powers to survive.

Kurozakuro by Yoshinori Natsume
An interesting license to pick up, since the manga, which ran in Shounen Sunday, was cancelled seven volumes in. The story focuses on Sakurai Mikito, a bullied young high school student who swallows a mysterious orb and then discovers cannibalistic tendencies. He learns-- from Zakuro, a boy he talks to in his dreams --that the thing he swallowed is an "ogre core" which will eventually turn him into an ogre...if the Ogre Hunters don't find him first.

Itsuwaribito by Yuuki Iinuma
A young man named Utsuho tries to become a con artist. Unfortunately he's a terrible liar and only wants to tell nice lies. The manga documents his travels alongisde an adorable tanuki and a swordsman, trying to become a master con artist. Serialized in Shounen Sunday.

And then there's the anime announcement: the June issue of Kaiousha's Gush magazine apparently lists an OVA based on Hinako Takanaga's The Tyrant Falls in Love, a very popular BL manga about a pair of student scientists, one of whom is a bitter, commanding leader, and the other of whom falls in love with his "tyrant." Unfortunately the tyrant also has a serious hangup about homosexuality, so...yeah.

Interesting stuff all around. I'm kind of curious about Kurozakuro-- I wonder why its popularity dropped off to the point of being cancelled? I also gather that Psyren is pretty popular, so I'm looking forward to that.

Any of these tickle your fancy?

@gia: Psyren , and I have read it lot by lots because it reminds me of Gantz with emphasis on psychic attributes

Kurozakuro sounds kinda interesting depending on how heavy the themes are I suppose. Would definitely check it out.

Tyrant should be fun.  I remember that more as comedy.

@gia:@Lydian_Sel: it wasn't that good, it is good while it lasted, it just pulls too long for a series in sunday

Being VIZ titles just makes them series to avoid. You can normally find scanations of most series.
