As you can see, this segment has been re-christened More Than a Laugh from When LOL Just Isn’t Enough. I did this because the ‘LOL’ part discourages potential readers. The new title doesn’t have quite the same ring but the content will not change. I write to adapt! Or maybe it's adapt to write..
I go back to an actual comedic series this time with Demon King Daimao. I’ll say first off that this series had a number of directions it tried to go with the plot toward the end and ended up going the complicated route. I’m still a little confused. But that just adds to the interest, no?
In this episode, Sai Akuto takes charge as a Disciplinary Committee member. Seems like quite the ploy by the Student Council President to make the supposed Demon King in charge of upholding order. Plenty of simple plotting is going on by Etou as she uses Sai to do her dirty work in finding out the hidden secrets of the school. Yes, this another one of those magical school harem shows. Don’t let that fool you as there is plot in this one and not the simple-toon (Artemis Fowl reference-which totally isn’t anime related) shenanigans that plague shows of this type.
You got plenty of action and some of the comedy spawns from it. How? Obviously by explosions tearing off girls’ clothes! The original airing had some funny little circles covering up everything but Sentai Filmworks released the show uncensored in the US this summer. There are some funny lines placed here and there but what stands out most for me in the episode is Korone peeping into the boy’s bath with no subtlety. She wonders why men are worried about their penis size and Sai awkwardly tries to explain; which leads her to say she should see his to do “apples-to-apples” comparisons. That moment made the episode for me aside from the end where a mob was chasing after Sai with Junko at the lead.
I think there is another episode that makes calling people “douchebag” the running joke. No, that was Highschool of the Dead, my bad. Dubs can be goofy. But Demon King Daimao is a show where I actually laughed more with the dub than the sub. That doesn’t happen too often.
So what do you Vicers think? Did this episode, or series, make you laugh quite a bit like me? Or did you see it as just going through the typical harem comedy motions? If you want to know my full thoughts on the show take a look at the Dunce Cap episode Dunce Cap: Demon King! Demon King! Demon King!
Watch this episode, “A Little Intimidating Senior” below. It’s the sub version. The Anime Network has the show, too.

Hm, I haven't watched anything in ages, maybe worth checking out. Hulu doesn't work here, but also easier to get this stuff here anyway.
Demon King is fun. =)
@Addfwyn: I just checked, it's available on the animenetwork and crunchyroll, but only subbed.
@AURON570: Well I live in Japan, so anime is pretty easy to find somewhere. I don't believe either of those services are available here either
As much fun silliness as it is, the fan-service and the lack of intelligence of the characters makes it really hard for me to watch it.
I was thinking of trying Demon King Diamao soon. Also, congrats on the name change (it was definitely for the better anyways).
I saw this about a year ago and I normally don't like this sorta anime but I actually did enjoy it. I had no idea what it was going in but with time to waste I saw it on CRoll and just hit play. I found it funny and the short action scenes were cool. I also liked how the "sexy" parts weren't all creepy/serious it was all jokey and i found myself laughing a lot throughout the series.
@Addfwyn: well okay then :)
@metalsnakezero: exactly and the ending is just terrible and the worst kind of reset ending in that it makes no sense and doesn't really even try to. After about this episode the show got progressivly worse. And I didn't find it funny to begin with. The early episodes of steins gate (before it became mucho serious and wouldn't fit here) are much more enjoyable..
