Some more big news out of Comic-Con, entirely courtesy of IFMagazine, who scored an exclusive interview with Warner Bros. producer Andrew Lazar: the live-action Hollywood take on Akira is still in the works, with a script being written.
See, a while ago it came out that the project might have been dead in the water, which was widely reported. Less-widely reported, but nonetheless right here on Vice, came a tidbit that indicated that the film might not be as scrapped as it seemed. So you, the Vice Squad, can take pride in not being surprised that Akira is still going. Go ahead, brag to your friends. You know you want to.
Other bits: Lazar notes that it's "not realistic to go before the third quarter of next year for a 2011 release," and that "it is far too premature to be talking about who will play what role."
So go forth and cast! Who would play Kaneda and Tetsuo? Hugh Jackman and Toby Maguire? Seth Rogen and Jim Carrey? Gimme something to work with, people!
