So, in case you missed it, according to ANN, it turns out that the new Gainax project (the one we knew about because of a job listing) is going to be called PANTY & STOCKING WITH GARTERBELT (the first part of which sounds like PANTING ‘N STALKING after you say it three times fast). Where before we only knew that this series was going to 1900-1930’s era Great Britain, we now have a few plot details. It’s about an “odd couple” appropriately named Panty and Stocking. The former’s a bubbly blond celeb girl, and the other’s a brunette goth. They’re actually two heaven-sent angels who’ve been tasked to fight Earth-borne “ghosts.” Judging by what more experienced fans have told me about Evangelion, I can only guess that all those possibly religious-sounding nouns are just arbitrary. Just totally arbitrary.
Call me crazy, but I figure Panty and Stocking are going to be foils. Stocking’s going to be a Pollyanna whose cheeriness can get nauseating, while Panty’s a pessimistic who’s bad vibes always bring everybody down. Or wait… reverse that. Anyway, I’ll keep my evil eye out for this. Sounds like it’s going to be more shojo than shonen and that might not bode well my red blooded manly machismo… but I’ve enjoyed FLCL and EVA so much, I’m eager to see check out whatever Gainax puts out.
