Monday is Listurday! 12/22/08

A weekly list of lists, from sales to individual top-tens and more.

Fruits Basket Vol 21
Fruits Basket Vol 21
United States:
  • Nothing on the USA Today booklist for the week ending on December 14, but ICv2 has the list of the top 300 graphic novel sales for November. There are 14 manga in the top 100 (if you count TOKYOPOP's Warcraft GNs), and two were in the top ten: Naruto 32 and Fruits Basket 21, of course. I've posted the top 14 to my blog if you want the full list.
  • This isn't a sales list, but it's certainly an interesting list: Anime on DVD's Chris Beveridge lists out the top 5 (plus one bonus) things US anime companies did wrong in 2008. Hey Chris, is there a list of the top things they succeeded at coming, too?

Japan:

  • At the box office for 12/20 to 12/21, Major got bumped from 2 place to 6, and Bleach from 3 to 10, alas, thanks to the releases of The Day the Earth Stood Still, K-20, Akai Ito, and World of Lies. The newest Gegege no Kitarou film opened at #7, which isn't too bad, and a new Tamagotchi film is at #9.
  • The singles chart features some familiar names: boy band Shuuchishin's “Yowamushi Santa” takes the top spot, with Porno Graffiti's “Koyoi, Tsuki ga Miezutomo” (the theme for the recent BLEACH Fade to Black film) in second. KAT-TUN's “White Xmas,” Junko Akimoto's “Ai no Mama de...,” and Masayoshi Yamazaki's “Heart of Winter” round out the top five.
  • On the full albums front we have Mr. Children's “Supermarket Fantasy” at #1, followed by Exile's “EXILE BALLAD BEST,” live-action Nana actress Mika Nakashima's “VOICE” (she played Nana O.), Kiyoshi Hikawa's “Enka Meikyoku Collection 9,” and Omnibus's “Ai no Uta 2.”
  • Moving onto DVDs, live concert DVDs seem pretty popular, with B'z's “GYM Hidden Pleasure” taking the top spot and Sazan All Star's “Manatsu no Dai Kanshasai” at #3. The only anime in the top ten is Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei at #8.
  • There's no anime at all in the top 10 theatrical DVDs, but I thought you'd be interested to know that Dark Knight is #1, Prince Caspian is #5, A Am Legend is #7, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Special Edition is #8, and Ocean's 13 is #10. Yeesh.
  • Nothing unusual in the top 10 TV anime ranking for this past week; Sazae-san, Chibi Maruko-chan, Crayon Shin-chan, Doraemon, and Gegege no Kitarou unite to make up the top five as usual.
  • Last but not least, we have the manga rankings! Oricon's are mostly the same as last week: One Piece #52 and Bleach #36, followed by Angel Heart #28, D.Gray-Man #17, and Major #70. If you missed it, the noobs on that list are the Angel Heart and Major volumes.

Well, that's it for this week's updates on what's sellin'. Now my question is...what are you guys buying?

Go Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei! Go go go! :D

I bought Cosmode from Japantown in SF today (along with other Christmas presents for my dorky friends). I love Christmas shopping.
