Our weekly collection of rankings from around the 'net.

Okay, kids, let's do this thing!

Fruits Basket Vol 21
Fruits Basket Vol 21

US:

  • Matt Blind has the latest sales rankings for manga in the US, and there was no movement in the top three- Naruto 33, 32, and 31, in that order. Vampire Knight 5 moved up to fourth place, knocking Fruits Basket 21 into the fifth spot. Also of note: Blu's yaoi title Junjo Romantica is in the top ten (at #8)-- I guess that anime adaptation really helped sales?
  • Speaking of Naruto, volume 33 is still clinging to the USA Today booklist at #137. Oh, and ICv2 has the Nielsen ratings for graphic novels for 2008, and Naruto volumes 28-30 made up the 2, 3, and 4 slots on the list. (#1 was Watchmen and #5 was Batman: The Killing Joke Special Edition.) In fact, with nine volumes on the list, Naruto was nearly half of the best-selling titles. Eesh. Other manga on the list include Death Note (whose first, second, and final volumes were #9, 12, and 19 respectively), Fruits Basket 19 and 20 (#s 10 and 11, respectively), Bleach 22 (#17), and Vampire Knight 1 (#20). That leaves only two Batman volumes and Watchmen for non-manga on the list, by the way...
  • Amazon's top five anime for the moment are Afro Samurai Resurrection on Blu-Ray, Spirited Away, Afro Samurai Resurrection DVD, Avatar, and Princess Mononoke. Meanwhile the current best-selling manga is pretty different from last week-- the first four spots are Naruto volumes 34, 37, 36, and 35 in that order, with #5 being Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga and Graphic Novels.

Japan:

Code Geass
Code Geass
  • This weekend's top movie in Japan was Quantum of Solace, which was just released. That drops Kansen Rettou to #2, but it's still beating the new Gekiranger movie at #3, the romantic drama Daremo Mamottekurenai at #4, and Revolutionary Road at #5.

And at Oricon this week:

  • Mostly new names on the singles chart, although the #1 spot goes to Junko Akimoto's “Ai no Mama de.” The new Bleach OP, Aqua Timez's “Velonica,” takes the #2 spot while AAA's newest single Tabidachi Uta takes #3. Also, Major's OP “Hey! Hey! Alright!” by Scha Dara Parr and Kaela Kimura sits at #10.
  • Back on albums, “Code Geass Complete Best” debuts at #1, yay! Also, singer/seiyuu Maaya Sakamoto's new album “Kazeyomi” debuts at #3. alice nine.'s album Vandalize, which features the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds end theme “Cross Game,” also debuted at #7.
  • Moving on to DVDs, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles topped for this week. No anime made it into the top five. Sad!
  • Nothing interesting on the top-watched anime list, but mostly new titles on the top comics list: Hayate no Gotoku 18 took the top spot, while Kekkaishi 23, Hotaru no Hikari 13, Kami no Mizo Shiru Sekai 3, and 7Seeds 14 followed.

Follow-up question: do they change the voices with each Bond?
