Miyazaki Essays Pushed to August 4th

Pushed back, but still awesome.

Word came out way back when (March, to be exact) that VIZ was publishing a collection of essays not about, but written by director Hayao Miyazaki. Titled Starting Point 1979-1996, the years which cover the first half of Miyazaki's career.

The book was originally scheduled, by Amazon at least, to come out on July 7th, but VIZ's press release gives it an August 4th release date. I'm also not sure how many essays are included, but the intro was written by John Lasseter, CCO at Pixar/Disney. The book was translated by Frederik L. Schodt, famed American Osamu Tezuka expert, and edited by VIZ's Nick Mamatas (if you missed it the first time, Ghibli World interviewed Mamatas when news of the book first hit).

I'm still loving the cover, too, so I can't wait to pick up my copy. (Hey, VIZ-- early copies at Comic-Con? Since Miyazaki will be there and all? Pretty please?)

Dig Deeper into Hayao Miyazaki

One of the most widely-recognized anime directors in Japan and probably the most well-known outside of Japan, Hayao Miyazaki is known for his whimsical films, created by the animation studio he co-founded, Studio Ghibli.
