Missed the Gurren Lagann Movies? Take Two!

Here's another chance for you to see the Gurren Lagann flicks in a full-on theater!

 Gurren Lagann the Movie: Childhood's End
You guys know what huge Gurren Lagann fanatics we are here at Anime Vice, so of course we hit up VIZ Cinemas' double-feature showing of not one but BOTH Gurren Lagann films, subtitled in English-- and of course we shot footage of our attendance, including our current favorite TTGL fan, Dan, who flew all the way out from Massachusetts to California to see both flicks.

Well, Dan, if you wanted a replay, get your wallet ready, because I just got word from VIZ Pictures that they're doing another double-feature this February! Yes, if you have access to San Francisco, California on February 21st, you too can see both Gurren Lagann: The Movie ~ Childhood's End and Gurren Lagann: The Movie 2 ~ The Lights in the Sky are Stars. They run back-to-back, with the first at 5pm and the second at 7:30pm, and tickets will run $15 to see both films.

Also airing at VIZ Cinema in February are Josee, The Tiger and the Fish, a romance about a young man who falls in love with a feisty woman stricken by cerebral palsy (Feb. 5-18), and La Maison de Himiko, a tale of family dysfunction and homosexuality in Japan (Feb. 18 - Mar. 4).

If you'd like more info on any of the movies, here's the press release.

So! Who's going to try and make it to Gurren Lagann this time around-- or the other films?

My Buddy and I were in Japantown two weeks ago, and we were not particularly into the movie playing at the VIZ, so we promised each other that the next time they played Gurren Lagann we would go and see it... Bro Pact.

I am now going to forward this page to my aforementioned friend, and he will read it and realize that our Bro Pact must be fulfilled!

Anime Vice... helping to fulfill Bro Pacts since 20XX!!!

*Complaint mode: I swear, this place wants to mess with me. Play movies I wanna see on a school night. (Maybe I take my classes a little too seriously?) Complaint mode*
Who knows? I might make it this time. MIGHT. (I don't live THAT far from S.F. But how many transit agencies will I need to get me there, 3-4? Wow)

@Papasan: aww, bro pact!

@CapeBarnes:
As long as it doesn't murder you, you need to do it. Its kind of awesome. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it again just for fun.

Theres something like, what 17 minutes of new footage in the first one, but the second one has a relatively absurd amount of new footage. (over an hour)

Part of its the package, part of its the environment, but the second one does feature (very fan service based, mind you) piles of new content onto their adventure. Also, several small changes to the story, to make the work as a whole stronger.

@Chengy: The first movie mostly is, but the couple of things in there that are new are so worth it. The second movie is at least half, probably more, new, and OH GOD IT WILL HAVE DELICIOUS STEAMY SEX WITH YOUR EYEBALLS.

...Uhm.

...Not literally.

*coughs*
