Meet the 2009 Best Anime Theme Song Nominees

Kind of a mixed bag of nominations, really.

anime!anime! has the nominees for Animation Kobe's 14th annual theme song awards, for which voting has also just opened up. Here are the nominees:

So, I wish ED songs were eligible as well as OP songs, because I liked Diamond Crevasse (Macros F's first ED) better than the OP, not that I thought it was bad. I also can't help but feel like Slayers Revolution got nominated because it's Slayers and Megumi Hayashibara...it's a good song, but not great.

Of these, my favorite is actually Zettai Karen Children's Over the Future. It's snazzy and catchy and, if you know the lyrics, totally adorable.

But why should I keep blathering on the matter? Here's all five of the songs on YouTube so you can share your own thoughts.

  Macross F - Triangular:

Slayers Revolution – Plenty of Grit:

Minamike – Keikenchi Joushou Chuu:

Zettai Karen Children – Over the Future:

CLANNAD – Megumeru:

Okay, dish. What's your favorite, what's your least favorite, and what do you think will actually win?

Just wanted to note again that my personal favorite is Zettai Karen Children's "Over the Future," and I really feel that both "Full of Grit" and "Triangular" are kinda generic...no idea what will win though. If it winds up being the kind of contest that's mostly about popularity, probably Macross or CLANNAD.

Maaya Sakamoto FTW!
I personally hope that "Triangular" wins, but we shall see.

i wish the Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger Opening was in this :( that would have my vote

Out of these, Plenty of Grit takes my vote.

This list of nominees is lacking in the awesome (not that they aren't good), all of them are J-pop songs with a slab of moe or sexy splashed on. Out of those though I'd say Triangular (nominates Xam'd's RUN AWAY).
Baku_Senseion June 1, 2009 at 10:01 a.m.
Xamd's RUN AWAY, yes. This should be on there and should win.

@Schwindelmagier: Remember that it's about the best SONG, not necessarily the best SINGER.

Which is why  I'd vote Minamike, even though I love Megumi Hayashibara with the fiery passion of a million hells.

My vote is for Plenty of Grit.

It's a bit disappointing to not see "Naraku no Hana" from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, though I am heavily biased toward Shimamiya Eiko.

Also, can we just go ahead and give next years award to Cagayake Girls?  There really is no sense in waiting and/or using a time flux capacitor.

I'm probably one of only a handful here who likes Megumeru (it's a nice soft song to calm down to between bouts of S.S.H., JAM Projcect, and Kotoko's heavier stuff), so I would vote for it personally.

Triangular I didn't like as much as Lion, but it's still my second favorite of the list and also the one I think would be most likely to win.

Over the Future has my vote, but I wouldn't be disappointed if Megumeru won. I'd guess either Macross or Clannad will take the prize.

I'd vote for "Plenty of Grit" and have a tie between "Triangular" and "Over the Future" for second.
