Manga on my PSP!?!

What next, comic books?

Start your squinting, as Sony recently announced that the Japanese PSN store will carry manga within the year. While the system has been no stranger to graphic novels, even having two here, I'm led to wonder how effective downloading your manga onto the phone would be.

Taken at face value, the PSP's screen just cannot display the entire comic at its native resolution, and thus instead of scanning with your eyes, your thumb is doing all the work. Seriously, at 480x272, I'd question who would be willing to use this as their medium of consumption. If anyone remebers the Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid visual novels, sure they were comics, on my PSP, but they also had soundtracks and voice actors. I dunno if I'd want the same treatment on say, Naruto or Bleach.

Any takers? Anyone already upload images to their PSP to read?

I do and I don't mind scrolling to the next panel but I know others might complain.

I'd wait and see how it turns out, but I've tried reading manga on my friends psp and found it pointless.

I wanna see how it works out, too.

I don´t think i would be into it... i actually like having a paper copy. It reads easier and after you´re done reading, you put them on a shelf and it looks great! Then again, having manga in a digital format would save me a bunch of space! Sometimes i´ll read manga online to see if its any good before i buy it, but the PSP´s screen is not that big and that might blur some of the detail

I actually used to read alot of manga on my PSP(Until I upgraded to vista and the program I used to sort it stopped working).  I wouldn't say it's the prefered way to read it, but if you are at work or on the go it's great to be able to read some manga without worring about carrying a bunch of voulmes with me. If the price was right I would be willing to check this out.

Meh, I read manga online and it works fine, but a PSP screen is just barely too small (maybe if they make it rotate certain frames vertically....idk).

I certainly don't mind giving it a try. I'm with Chibi_Kaji, I think it'd be something cool to try on the go (especially if the price is right) on your PSP. I don't think it necessarily is meant to be a replacement of conventional manga reading, but rather something that compliments it. Besides, I glad it's something that Sony is finally deciding to do--seeing as though not everybody does the whole 'homebrew' modding thing to their PSPs (as is the way most manga-to-PSP things work that are out there)....at last it's not something I wanna do to mines (seeing as though it's an import system I've had for a while).

Hmm, perhaps I should take a peek on the J-PSN Store see what's going on (ortry to at least, w/ my super-limited Japanese and all, lol). I get the strange feeling I better get on ebay for me a J-PSN card.....guess it's about time, :p.
