Maaya gets Gendo glasses!
Now, remember how there's supposed to be a new female character who'll be introduced in the Evangelion movie remakes? Word on 2ch is that Maaya Sakamoto is playing her, and her name is Makinami Mari Illustrious. Hey, don't ask me-- I don't make the names, I just report 'em.
So, let's think for a minute. Assuming that Asuka with her new name won't be any different from our past Asuka, we have our tsundere. With Rei we have our injured deadpan girl. What do you think Mari will be like? And what do you think will be her deep dark inner issue that makes her go psycho in the end? Everyone has one of those in this world, right?
I'm also curious as to what she'll look like. Her name sounds like she'll have mixed heritage like Asuka, but we already have a redhead and a...well, blue/silver/white-haired girl. Maybe a brunette? Blonde? What do you guys think?
Anyways, I'm happy that Maaya is getting some extremely high-profile voice roles this year (i.e. FFXIII's "Lightening"). I hope she sends her agency a HUGE gift basket at the end of the year for the work they've done. :)
I hope the character has a peculiar hair color. No idea why, I really want something like green.

Yes, these are official and have been shown at trade fairs and the like. Basically, she's a bespectacled brunette whose "emblematic" outfit seems to be a British school uniform. The assumption is that she's the pilot for the new Unit 05 (which is a ridiculous cobbled-together monstrosity that lacks normal arms and legs, having weapon mounts in the elbows in place of arms and wheels in place of legs - http://www.evageeks.org/2009/03/new-revoltech-eva-figures/ ) and is at least partly British, similarly to how Asuka is partly German.
Note of course that "Makinami Mari Illustrious" is the Japanese name order, family first followed by the two personal. In English she would be rendered as "Mari Illustrious Makinami". Granted Illustrious is still pretty out there but I've seen people name their kids worse in real life. :V
Also Gia, I don't care what anyone else says, Asuka is Yandere, not tsundere. In front of the people she likes (Kaji) she acts all sweet, but in front of people that tick her off (Shinji) she's abusive as hell....shes about the only girl that immediately comes to mind that could match Louise on the abusive scale... So here's to hoping that this new girl is more of a true tsundere like Mio, Rin, or Kagami.
